keeper pet "peeves"
does anyone else get really annoyed when:
your snake defecates in the water bowl?
smears doo-doo along the cage walls?
makes boom boom all over its hide box?
I had cleaned my big female bullsnakes' cage out just two days ago, and last night she had managed to make another really gross mess out of it.
anyone who has large pituophis can surely appreciate their mess potential.
im sure you guys keeping Drymarchon have it much worse...
BW... didn't you have a funny indigo poo story?

I don't know HOW they do it, but Pituophis have the most amazing ability to shred their own newspaper and then poop directly on the cage floor.

My Ball Python actually did that the same day I cleaned his cage I would hate to have a snake that actually has a faster matabolism

Re: keeper pet "peeves"
i usually end up laughing when mine poo. chance is 9 foot and she manages to make herself the size of a dime the farthest away from the poo she can get. i swear she stares at me in her dime shape until i clean it. she acts like i did it.
max is ADHD and i am pretty sure he swings his tail like a lasso while he is pooing to make sure it is everywhere.

Re: keeper pet "peeves"
Jezi likes to poop in her water dish, and in her hide, and on her hide, and AROUND the water dish....then she hides under the aspen, as if she thinks shes going to be in trouble for making such a mess lol.
.
Kobi always poops in her hide, then moves to the other one. Its her way of saying...Hey, I pooped over there. Clean it up for me so I can go back over there! Sure enough once I clean it out she moves back to her origional hide lol.
.
Riley NEVER makes a mess. But then again, his potties are so small that I just have to constantly change the aspen cause I can't find them to remove them!
.
When its all said and done, I'd choose all of these over litter boxes any day!

cept when its a bullsnake and its just nasty and gets all OVER it, not just in it, you need gloves just to remove it, then take it outside, rinse it off, then take it inside and wash with soap, or bleach it out, then rinse again...
and this girl eats large to jumbo rats, one time a week, so its like every wed-thurs its biohazard day.. and sometimes she goes again on sat/sun
it never ends.
now I remember why I don't have 15 bullsnakes anymore.. LOL

Re: keeper pet "peeves"
How about when Lucy the Texas Rat goes under all the layers of news paper I put out for her just to soil the glass. Or when she poops in front of me right after I finish cleaning her cage. Hate it when that happens. On a serious note, geckos and other lizards make cleaning snake cages look luxorious.

Oh yeah and lovingly named Mr. Demon the aggressive Tokay loves to go to the top of his 20 gallon tall to poop and watch it drip all the way down his enclosure. Somehow he is still my collection favorite!

My colubrids somehow, someway get poo in the little air holes in the sweater boxes. Do you know how hard that is to get out? LOL I had to buy a toothbrush just to clean out those little holes.
The blood pythons are obnoxious too. If they don"t need to pee, they simply knock their water over right after you clean cages.

Man does it get old. Geckos are always doing this in water bowels or on the walls.

i am horrified of tokays. lol. my nephew owned a petshop and i would sell the scorpions but if someone wanted a tokay they had to wait for him to get back from the show. i have been scared of them since i was 15. the same nephew had them when he was a kid and i went there one time and it was on the kitchen wall and i walked by and it started hissing at me and scared me for life. the same tokay bit my nephew between his 2 fongers and wouldn't let go, he had to shove his hand in cold water.
anyways one day at the petshop my nephew got one out and acted like it was a wind up toy and he pretended he was winding it up and aimed it in my direction and when he set it down it did come flying at me ( he didn't really expect it to) i ran so fast towards the door that i didn't even open it and i slammed into the closed door and it knocked my glasses off and i fell down! my nephew felt so bad after he quit laughing. lol

UGGGHH I HATE that, I buy pipe cleaners to poke it back through.
I do have a really really really really really really gross story about blood python poop...
i'll summarize:
wild caught blood python (this was back in the early 90's when CB's weren't available hardly at all)
one particular individual couldn't seem to digest fur..
so..... it would cause a blockage.
so... it would take 2 people to restrain this giant irritated blood python while I used a long metal probe to break up the blockage..
well.. the FIRST time I did it, I didn't seem to take into account what was backed up behind that blockage.
needless to say, it got all over me, all over the floor, everything.
It was like a garden hose on full power......
from that point on, I started shaving rats that I was feeding to my bloods....

They are just simply evil. The problem is they run so darn quick up your arm, you stop moving so it won't bite then you sneeze! It runs right to your nose and chomps with a higher velocity than any snake. That's already happened to me twice in two days! It is so territorial that when its stomach is full it still goes around killing crickets for the heck of it!

Re: keeper pet "peeves"
My snakes are pretty well behaved in the poop department, but one thing the carpets do that drive me wonky is the whole, "OH NOES not the cage, I'm gonna wrap around anything I can reach and get myself stuck is this thing here so you can't put me back!" They really don't like to go back in their cages, lol.

LOL!!!! I've had one with a blockage, it was like big rocks of compacted fur. Thankfully he didn't have anything else in there so there was no spewage.
The grossest story I have involves feeding. When I first got my female sunbeam she would only eat live mice. She grabbed the mouse and constricted so hard it's guts literally went out the butt . YUCK!
