Re: Snakes on a Ferry!!!
Here's the full story....
Earlier this week the group that I work with got a call from a pet store in victoria who knew of our good reputation for helping reptiles in need... their case was this; one of their long time customers had died in an accident and his parents were left clueless as to finding homes for his two female albino burms (one is 16ft and one is 17ft) they contacted us and said we were highly recomended in the area more than any shelter.
So on tuesday we took the ferry to victoria where we met the very kind, still very upset parents. They told us they knew their son would want best for his snakes because he loved him more than anything (and it shows, both are in great condition besides one being a tad underweight and both are very docile) we explained to them that we specialize in rescue and educational seminars as well as private demonstrations and pet expos etc. They were so happy the mom began crying and hugged me!
So back onto the ferry cargo deck, we had the snakes in large sports bags with smaller rip-proof bags inside. We sat below deck for a bit with the snakes when soon the staff started to wonder why we were just chillin on the floor with some bags, we told them we had live snakes... big ones. The staff really wanted to see so we said, well if we won't get in trouble and you wash off the cargo deck first, we'll bring one out. We wanted to check her condition anyways since she seemed a little thin.
We had her out for a bit, some of the staff got pictures with her, it was overall a really feel-good trip. We got to hand out lots of our business cards and we told everyone what we do and why we had them. The staff were great, If you'd like to see the videos let me know your youtube username (if you have one, and I'll add you to the private list so you can see them)
As far as the news goes, someone contacted them I guess... not sure who. There were a few passengers who came down too and took some pictures so I dunno... but they contacted us in good faith saying they wanted to know what happened and if they could get a story release. I said no because it doesn't matter if they wanted to help with our publicity or not, the news twists things. And all we need are people freaking out at bc ferries or the anti-snake community bashing us even more for doing NOTHING wrong. And more people trying to dump their pets on us as well! I messaged them back saying they deffinately did not have permission to release anything.
If they message me back today I'll let you know what they have to say... it was The Province newspaper.

Re: Snakes on a Ferry!!!
Glad to hear they are in good hands now. They look to be in good shape and tame. I would think they would be good for your educational seminars you do. Can you add me to your youtube list as I would love to see the video. My youtube username is mccarthyboas
Take care
Tom
