Thumbs up That's more like it.

Good news, I just got off the phone with Petco, and they're willing to refund me my vet bills and possibly compensate me for wages lost. The guy I spoke with at corporate was HORRIFIED at my story, I have never heard anyone apologize so profusely in such a short span of time.

As I was relating the story, sparing the poor man NO gritty, disgusting detail, every pause in my story was met with "Oh my god, I am so sorry," "I am SO sorry!" "That's so awful, I'm so sorry!"

I at least feel a little better that A.) he listened, B.) he took me seriously, and

C.) - I didn't ask for a thing. I called him, and very politely asked if he was the correct person to lodge a complaint with. Upon finding that he was, he asked for the story. So - I began by telling him that for the past 9 years, every tiny thing I needed for my dog has been purchased at Petco because I was under the impression that their products were trustworthy. I asked him very sweetly if he knew how much NINE YEARS of dog food cost for a 100 pound dog. He said he didn't, so I gave him the quick math on it, totalling $9,600 ($40 per bag, two bags a month, 12 bags a year, for nine years. Technically, the cost is higher because Jennyr is almost 10, but the point went across.) He was sufficiently aghast, so I mentioned that that price did not include toys, treats, beds, collars, leashes, flea medications, shampoos, or any of the other hundred and six things I ONLY buy at Petco. Nine years worth of it.

He said he never really stopped to think about it. I said I never had either, until I got to thinking how much my loyalty benefited the company. There was a thoughtful pause, and so I went on to tell him what happened with... dun dun dunnn!(I didn't do the sound effect, I'm only that crazy when the situation doesn't call for being concise, professional, and very polite)... THE BONE!

I admit to mild amusement at just HOW horrified I could make him. Turns out he's kind of squeamish... I think I ruined his day. (... Heheheheheheheheeeee...)

Anyway, he gave me a case number and said to file an incident report at the store I bought the bone from, with all the documentation of my fiscal loss that occured because of... Dun dun dunnn!.... THE BONE! He said they'll get me reimbursed for this issue. I didn't even have to ask.

I think he just wanted me to stop detailing all that happened to my poor boy. But, I'm pleased that I didn't have to ask for what I wanted, he just pretty much gave it to me. So, I feel good about that. And everyone keeps saying Iwon't get anywhere being nice... (If that conversation was "nice" I'm almost afraid to see where it would have gone if I wasn't "nice".... I wonder if I could have made him quit the company? LOL)

And I'm pleased, because the matter is well on it's way to being resolved, and I didn't even have to get nasty-tempered. I HATE having to get nasty-tempered with anyone. It really ruins my day.

And better yet - Jennyr got to come home finally. He's still not feeling great, but he's eating and looking better every day. I cried when I picked him up... I really thought I was going to lose him. I'm so happy he's back home, I could just like, impulse buy a whole clutch of tarantulas!

Re: That's more like it.

A bone from Petco nearly killed my dog. It's called a "Mammoth bone" or something like that. Apparently the marrow in a great percentage of those bones is fetid, and cram-packed with harmful bacteria.

Blindly trusting Petco's quality of dog-related products, I picked one up as a very rare treat for my dog. My dog nibbled on it, and immediately began vomiting with a whole host of "other digestive troubles" and nearly ruined his entire digestive system.

He stopped eating, stopped drinking, and would not stop vomiting or bleeding. So, I rushed him to the Emergency Vet, they took x-rays and told me he was normal. They sent me home with antibiotics, which did absolutely nothing. The next day, Jennyr was even worse, despite the antibiotics, so I took Jennyr in to another vet, who, bless his fuzzy heart, did everything in his power to save Jennyr, all the while cursing that stupid bone(he said he sees this sort of thing all the time from those exact bones) and cursing the emergency vet for not doing more extensive work or tests on Jennyr.

That bone gave Jennyr a horrendous bacterial infection that completely wiped out his gut flora, and gave him acute gastroenteritis. He nearly died. I nearly had a heart attack myself, and took three days off work to stay home with Jennyr in case the worst happened before he was hospitalized.

I'm not going to go into detail more than that, because it was really... really bad. Bad enough that my vet went slack jawed and immediately took Jennyr into the back for fluids and to begin treatment, throwing the rest of his appointments back.

How fantastic that you found somebody not only to listen to you but also to step up and do the right thing UNPROMPTED!!! That is so rare and awesome!

And thank goodness Jennyr's okay!! Happy endings all around, that's awesome!
