I always try to read the novel first. Usually it leaves me a lot more intrigued than the movie.
I saw Pet Semetary years ago, and it scared the crap out of me. Recently, I picked up the book and it sincerely frightened me. I like those horror novels that just stick with you.

Oh I whole-heartedly agree. I like to read the novels and get into the real deep backstories, descriptive emotions, themes, and thought processes of the characters, and then see the movie later and be able to infer those ideas into the film. A film on it's own can never relay all the depth you can get out of a great written story.

I'm going to Warped. BR is still one of my top favorite bands of all time, I wished they would actually have concert here with just them. I've never seen them other than what they do at warped. Wish I were born a few years earlier.

I've been reading a lot of Stephen King lately. His stuff always entertains me. It's also really fun to pick out the similarities in the characters from his other books and little throwbacks he leaves behind.
I need to move on to other authors, though.

The first Stephen King novel I read is still my favorite. Have you read Eyes of the Dragon? There is something so mesmerizing about his stories.

I went through a streak of reading King back when I was in the air force. I like his writing style... He's very descriptive and vivid, yet his tone and 'voice' are very relatable and non-pretentious. He's a fun author to read, feels like someone you know is telling the story or something...

No, I haven't. I hear nothing but good things, though. I'm actually just starting to dig into my parents' old book collection and it's riddled with his books. They just might have it, if I look hard enough.
Seriously, the paperbacks they have are from when they were first published, and the pages are yellowed and they are lucky they have covers! I picked up my Dad's old copy of The Stand. IMO it is my favorite book of his, and probably one of the best books in modern literature.

Try Palahniuk! My favorite author out there.
Also, check out House by Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti.

That's probably why I'm so addicted to his books. I read his latest one, Duma Key. It's a lot slower paced than his older books, told in first person, but it is still very haunting and you can really see the torment of the main character.

I get most of my books from the library. Anyone ever read anything by Arturo Perez Reverte? I just read Queen of the South. I couldn't put it down. Though I don't know how any author can know so much about international drug smuggling unless he's been there and done it.

I'll have to check them out. I never watch TV and it makes me sad when I finish one.

I agree on Palahniuk His novels are very engrossing, yet always unflinchingly disturbing But disturbing is fun, IMO.
I haven't heard of House Maybe I'll look for that tommorow when I go for Let the Right One In.

Re: The Useless Large Thread... Part II
There are a very select few shows on TV that I do love. I generally wait for them to come out on DVD and watch them that way. "Lost" IMO, is one of the most imaginative and awesome pieces of visual arts ever foisted on the public!
