okay, aparently, this "spotty python" is so rare i've never even heard of it. So I suck at identifying snakes, is this a spott ed python?

Most definitely not a Carpet. And Children's Pythons typically have a much more faded pattern once they reach that size. So I'm pretty much 100% sure that it's a Spotted.
