mites anyway. LOL...I like the little kits of Sawyers products they sell at Walmart. It comes with 2 other pesticides...one is a lotion and the other is a pump spray and of course a can of Tick aerosol spray. All 3 are handy for herping trips but only use the tick spray for your reptiles. The other 2 are for keeping bugs off you...I forgot what the active ingredient is but it isn't permetherin... And even at 9 bucks for the kit...that is still half the price of a single can of Proventamite. </BLOCKQUOTE></FONT></TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE>
Ticks are nasty critters and can transmit several diseases to humans.
Mites are bad enough, but ticks can be dangerous. If I can shamelessly plug a site you may find interesting, try
http://permethrin-repellent.com which has information about ticks and their diseases and about Permethrin.
The other Insect Repellent ingredient you refer to is Deet. N,N-diethyl-m-Toluamide is a man made chemical and has been used worldwide as an insect repellent since the 1950s. No other chemical has been found to match Deet's effectiveness and safety as a repellent against mosquitoes and ticks, and some flies.
Sawyer's Broad Spectrum Spray also contains an additional ingredient, R326, which is even more effective at repelling biting flies than Deet alone. The Controlled Release lotion is a repellent which releases small amounts of Deet over many hours, and usually a single application on the skin will last all day. Just to explain the other Insect Repellents in that 3 Pack.
