Microchip opinions
Apparently there is research going on to develop a microchip for people. I have mixed opinions and want to hear yours.
I think that in certain situations, such as prison, in order to deal with escape, there may possibly be reason for a temporary chip.
In general though I am thinking this is an impermissible government intrusion on personal freedom. It is a way that government can control, and besides that, it would seem to invite technology geeks to evade or transgress the law by copying or changing chip info.
Very science-fiction type stuff, but it is in the horizon. What do you think?

Re: Microchip opinions
I believe microchips embeded in the skin is the future. None of that government-control malarky .

Re: Microchip opinions
The parent part of me wants my daughter microchipped so that when she's an unruly teenager, or in the event she is kidnapped, I can find her. The suspicious American in me sees this as Big Brother trying to keep tabs on us in yet another invasive way. So it's really kind of a double edged sword to me.

Re: Microchip opinions
They already offer locator chips for Alzheimer sufferers and ID chips for animals. In fact chipping livestock is slowly being made mandatory nation wide for anyone wanting to buy, sell or show livestock.
It is only one small step and a Supreme Court ruling from these things to making it mandatory in humans so they can not only ID us with a scanner but also track where we are at all times.
They will start with children push it as being for our own good then gradually shift the focus to adults again positing it is for our own good but what is it really?
Bottom line is there is nothing anyone can do to stop it once they decide it will be done which I believe they already have.

Re: Microchip opinions
..Lol. Ah well, a microchip'd be less bothersome I bet, than a personal barcode tattoo'd on your skin for all to see.
I dunno what to think, really. It doesn't bother me too much. I can see it making robberies at banks and gas stations and whatnot a little easier to solve, especially if they implanted a small device that tracked every chip that entered and left convenience stores and whatnot. Coupled by video-cameras, all they'd have to do is match the number on the chip with the culprit dashing out (or entering before the heist) the enterance of the place at that moment on the video.
Or am I reading too much into this?

That is precisely what worries me, though. They will tout them as a way to stop crime and such, but it will also be tracking what us law abiding citizens do, where we go, who we talk to...have you ever read the book 1984? If not, I'd suggest giving it a read. Veeery interesting stuff there.
