how often do your snakes shed?

just curious how often everybodies snakes shed. i know it is different for every snake, but just wondered if your snakes are on a regular schedule. my BCI and female BP usually shed every 3 meals.

also the BP i rescued about 3 weeks ago is blue right. he had just shed 3 weeks before i got him supposedly. i know he had shed b/c it was stuck on him, but coulda been longer. i contribute his quick shedding this time to the fact in the first two weeks i had him he ate a rat hopper,a med rat, and a large rat. he was only eating one small mouse a month when i got him.

Re: how often do your snakes shed?

I think younger, growing snakes are more likely to have regular shed cycles. This changes as they mature. Snakes also shed for other reasons besides growth so that complicates the subject.
.
Boas here shed about six times before their 1st birthday. After that there's less agreement on how often they will shed!
.
Thanks.

Re: how often do your snakes shed?

i think he is about full grow. well length wise anyway. i just need to get some more gurth on the poor guy. im hoping his new 1 large rat a week diet instead of 1 small mouse a month helps.

Re: how often do your snakes shed?

Depends on the snake, my baby ball pythons shed about once every four weeks or so, give or take. My BCI, every third meal, and I feed him every three weeks, one jumbo rat. If he's hungry and cruising around before then, I'll give him a bit of a snack, medium or large rat usually.

Like Gus said, they shed for other reasons besides growth too. Wounds, skin irritation, mites.. any little thing like that could trigger a shed cycle.
