Quiet
The electricity in the entire area just went off for about half an hour. I spose it was one of those whatchamacallits, they finally got it fixed.
It was pretty quiet here for that half hour. I have HEPA filters, and birds that chirp, and there is always some kind of sound going on. But the birds were quiet because it was dark, and the only sound was some distant traffic.
It was actually quite nice. It must be like that, living out in the country.
Of course, this being Texas, I'm grateful that the hum of the AC is once again in the background.

Re: Quiet
There are times when I really enjoy the quiet, but there are also times when I start to sing or talk to myself because it's just too quiet...
Because I generally enjoy the company of other people and I talk way too darn much, my life really isnt ever completely quiet.. haha.
I actually would love to live in the country, though. Nature's sounds are so incredible in comparison to city sounds. I've lived in the city-type area all my life and it gets pretty annoying. Currently, I live on a main road and my house is right at a traffic light. There are cars honking all day long and semi trucks that go by at all hours of the morning. Though I've learned to ignore most of it, at my house, there's no "quiet". I cherish the moments where i can sit in peace, because they are few and far between.
I'd really like to move to some rural area where there arent isnt so much noise, but it doesnt seem like that'll happen any time soon

Re: Quiet
Lol, I remember the quiet when we lived in Louisiana...our house was right on the bayou, and we lived in a tiny little town, so it was SO quiet at night, you could hear a mouse fart. It was that kind of quiet that makes it feel like the air is pressing in around your ears.
So one night I was standing out by the bayou, looking up and being amazed that I could actually see the stars instead of them being obscured by smog and city lights, having my little "one with nature" moment. Then I heard what I swear to this day was an alligator call...you know, that deep "BAAAARRROOOOOO!!" growly noise they make, and all in an instant it struck me how very dumb I was standing on the shore of a bayou at night in easy range of alligator grabbing.
I went to take off, slipped and fell in the mud, panicked, screamed bloody murder, and picked myself up and ran into the house. My husband looked up in time to see me tear up the back porch steps, slam the door behind me, and stare at him all wide eyed, covered in mud. Whereupon he started laughing hysterically and I went to take a shower.
After that I did my nature worshipping from the back porch, safely out of gator range.

Re: Quiet
Man, and to think when I lived in the south I brought my gators HOME...
Whereupon gramma would shriek and lock herself in the bedroom with her cat, and granpa would make me throw it outside over the fence, and then give me a whoopin. Ah, fond memories... those were some purty gators. ^___^
And some serious whoopins, too.
Me, I unfortunately live in the MIDDLE of the city. Convenience store on the corner, noisy mexican neighbors on one side, noisy yuppies on the other, and a busy intersection on the other two sides. One of the female cats upstairs isn't fixed yet, so every few weeks there's also "YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW RRROOOOWWWWW MROOOOOWWWWWW!" From her, and I swear to god half the city's population of males outside, yowling and fighting.
Not to mention, the humidifyers, the electronics in the house(you know, that constant hum of activity, that high pitched sound that isn't so much a sound as a feeling on the top of your head), the rats gnawing and drinking, the dog chewing on random bits of his anatomy....
Sigh. I really miss the quiet nights I used to spend on the roof of my house when I was younger. Those "almost summer" nights that were almost warm, but not quite... I'd climb up onto the chicken coop and jump onto the roof and just lay up there and watch the clouds go by. No traffic, no streetlights, no neighbors, no anything of the sort.
Man that was nice.
