this guy eats like a champ. i cant believe that kid was only feeding him one small mouse a month. look at the rats tail. the skin came off. anyone else have this happen to em? it only seems to happen on med and large rats. i think its b/c of the weight.

Yep really nice when you try the Whack-A-Rat method and sling a half knocked out rat across the room because the skin let go!

Tail skin slips pretty easy on rats. On another site I was on a rat raising person had that happen to her on a live rat she was trying to capture after it escaped. Once Amanda finally caught it she had to take it to the vet and have the tail amputated.

I would say that you are holding the tongs too tight on the rats tail.
I hold enough pressure to secure the rat from dropping out of the grip.
that way when the snake strikes it will release easy and this won't happen.

On a personal note. I did pull a rats tail in two when taking it out of the bag.
I was holding one of it's feet by accident when trying to remove it from the bag.

That happend before i even dangled it in the cage! lol. i picked it up out of the litte dish it was in and then bam. it fell back in the dish.
