Switching to FT
I thought I would introduce Yoshi to FT. She is 3 years old and has been on live mice and then FK rats. I put a thawed rat in the feed box with her. Usually she is on her food in seconds. She was in the box with that dead rat over night. I think I heard her say "I am not that hungry(expletive)." So, I am stuck with a stinky thawed rat. Good thing we have gopher snakes and king snakes in the yard that aren't so picky. So, any suggestions on how to switch her as painless as possible to FT?

Re: Switching to FT
Make sure it is warm before serving. You can warm it under a heat lamp. I always thaw mine in the fridge overnight and then submerge them in freezer ziploc baggie in really hot water. Usually they stay dry and get warm. Then I put them under a heat lamp for a few seconds.

Re: Switching to FT
also let her go a few extra days or even a week to get nice and hungry. i take mine out and get them kind of active and moving around if they are being stubborn eaters. then i put em back in and dangle the mouse for em. sometimes i gotta make it do a little dance so to speak. ive only been feeding F/T for about a month, but always dangled for my boa, and 95% i either stunned the rat or p/k'd it. i honestly had a lot of success on my boa by taking him out and getting him moving around if he had been being a tough eater. is Yoshi a BP or RTB? you could try braining them. i've heard it works wonders.

Re: Switching to FT
Yoshi is the BP. She was my first snake, and has never had problems eating. I guess I will have to hold off for an extra week to make sure she is good and hungry. She was eating a large rat every other Saturday. The other BP I have (Sissy) is the one that won't eat, anything, but I keep trying. She went 8 months without eating the last time. I guess I should have named her Persnickety. The male lemon pastel BP I have (Ziggy) eats 2 adult mice a week. The baby RTB I have usually eats one adult mouse a week. Jayden already eats FT.
It is a trip across town every weekend to get food for these guys. I am seriously considering breeding rats for them.
