Yes, they started this awhile back in a petco near me, and I did some research on it.

What they are actually doing is determining what areas sell which animals faster and for more money, and are pulling the "least commonly sold" animals (*for that area*) out of those stores.

Essentially, if ball pythons sell like hotcakes in Beaverton, OR, that store has lots of ball pythons. If ball pythons hardly ever sell in Portland, OR, they are removing ball pythons from the "shelves" in that location. Same for all the other animals they sell in the stores.

I mean, yay that they're getting SOME of these poor animals out of the stores, but in my opinion, the situation isn't actually much better. Load up the stores with the animals that sell well in that location.... I dunno. It's shady at best, in my opinion. I'd much rather they just pulled ALL the animals out of petco's and petsmart's entirely. Or hired better staff, and raised the bar for husbandry. And/or made it mandatory to pass an in-store test about each animal you want to buy. And/or make the prospective buyers wait a week before being allowed to bring their animal home to discourage impulse buying.

We can tell someone that we won't sell them an animal. Apparently I am the only one at my store with the testicular fortitude to do this. I get fussed at all the time because I won't sell animals to idiots.

Petco's in Houston deffinently don't have anymore reptiles period. Or at least both of mine off 1960 and Highway 6 don't. Haha this sounds promising. It is also because of the whole permit thing. The 1960 location actually got fined. I just thought I would say this cause well it goes well with this post. I am happy now I might actually want to go into petco. I won't be depressed that they aren't taking care of the animals. Petsmart is also doing this.
