Re: Your Worst Mistake
My first snake was Yoshi. She is a BP and she was about 18" long at the time.
First feeding. My husband, step daughter and I were standing around the feed box. I put Yoshi in the box and dropped the mouse in before I had put the lid on. Well, her food was in the box and she was climbing out, so gently grabbed her to put her back in with her food, and that's when she got me. Normal reaction, I pulled back my hand really fast, but she hadn't let go. So, across the kitchen she went flying. She hit the refrigerator and landed on the counter. I was crying so hard because I thought I had hurt her. My husband was asking me why I did that, and my step daughter was laughing so hard she was crying. I went over and picked up Yoshi, checked her for injuries and put her back in the feed box to see how much I had traumatized her. Well, she ate, and she hasn't missed a meal in almost three years. She is now about 4' long and is a finely tuned eating machine, and the sweetest snake.

I once did that with a hamster. I was about 10, reached my hand in the cage, got chomped...and across the living room flew Milo.
Glad your snake was ok!

I KNOW EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL!! I did the exact, to the letter, thing when I was 10 years old. I came home from Elementary School to find the snake dead, all belly up, mouth open and tongue hanging out. I cried for a long time and still too this day feel horrible about it. Poor snake, cooked alive for a boys negligence.
That is the worst thing I have ever done, and doubt that I will ever top it.

Re: Your Worst Mistake
There is a small creek within walking distance of the house where I grew up. Some beavers blocked off a fork in the creek which provided me with some great herpin and fishing. Anyway, I had been watching two very large northern banded water snakes and of course I had to catch one to prove to my dad how big they were (I was about 9 or 10). After several failed previous attempts I managed to get between the water and the largest snake. To make a long story short, I caught her and took her home to show off my prize. I placed her in a tank with grass clippings to make her feel secure. The next day I went to get her out and I wasn't sure which end was the toothed end because she was mostly covered in the grass clippings. I was in a hurry, so I guessed poorly and got hold of the wrong third of her body....she let me have it real good on the middle finger and I still have a 3/4 inch scare to prove it. Of course when she bit me, I did the reaction jerk and smacked my elbow on the edge of the enclosure hard enough to cut that too.
Pain and blood are good teachers and now I DON'T guess which end is the buisness end.

My worst mistake: trading my BCI for a Beardie, to make an ex-girlfriend happy. Should have traded the girlfriend.
