Re: The State of RTB
Well, I for one think the mods do the best they can. Maybe there is some slippage here and there...so what? No one is perfect. Do we really want this place run like a Nazi regime? Where a mod sits on every thread, ready to pounce, til the thread is done?
To those of you that have an issue with the smilies...you are saying that the smilies essentially express the same exact thing that you were trying to express with your typing, but got an infraction for. OK, maybe a bit hypocritical...but why don't you just use the smilies to express that thought? If they express the same thing, then your point comes across the same, and you don't get an infraction for it. Problem solved. Whether they express the same thought or not doesn't change that what is and isn't acceptable is spelled out in the TOS for anyone who cares to read them. I find them pretty clear. And if there is a word or phrase that I'm not sure is acceptable...I just find another word or phrase to use. It isn't hard. Without these rules in place this forum would quickly degenerate into a big mess of name calling and immaturity and flaming. I've been on forums like that, I'm not fond of them, and that is why I am here now.
Goodness knows being a mod is probably a very stressful job. You have the potential to make a new enemy or lose a friend every time you hand out an infraction. But they do it anyway because they are trying to uphold the quality of this forum. Quit pushing and nitpicking and let them get on with their jobs already.
End rant.

The nits must be picked off individually, it is a long and arduous process. Sometimes schoolchildren get lice by sharing combs and hats and the like, their parents must remove the resulting nits and it can take hours and hours or even days.
Just a description, so those of you who are nitpickers know where the term arose.

Re: The State of RTB
Thank you for the clarification, Lucille. I now know the meaning of life
.
I think this is a great thread, everyone. Mods - you do what you do for a reason, and I don't think any of it needs to be challenged. If it needed to be different, either there would be no mods, or everyone would be a mod. Get it?
.
Just my .02.

Re: The State of RTB
I would like to add my two cents:
I know where Natas is coming from about wanting the clean language.
Most all of the younger generation already know the bad and profound language. So in my opion we should get rid of the rule altogher.
or change it so some of the lessor words can be used.
And by the way I would love to be a mod.
for the simple reason I love to be hated

But by allowing it here, it will only show kiddos that behavior of that sort is acceptable. Not what we need in this day and age. When you are allowed to use that sort of language, no matter where, you become more accustomed to it and will use it more freely. I notice as I myself am having to watch my words on here, I am less likely to use them in day to day conversation. See what I'm saying? The last thing Shane needs is an e-mail from an angry parent because their 12 year old started saying [insert synonym for butt, or the misspelling of a large concrete mass that holds back water] freely because they got used to typing it on here. This is not where kids need to pick up bad habits. Again, just my .02.

Re: The State of RTB
The mods here do a good job. This is a big place with a lot of ground to cover. Can't be everywhere all the time you know. Each will moderate as they see fit and they all have different sets of values. They are like cops you know. When they bust you, you think they are worthless. But when you need someone busted, they are your saviors.
.
Nothing is perfect and everything will at some point offend someone. Nothing needs changing, IMO.
.
Kobi, this is my 3 cents.
