Re: Must see video. Unbelievable.
You know, as much as I want to believe it --- and I do to an extent--- but I wonder in that one scene where the trainer is standing while the elephant is painting. He is right beside her with his hand behind her ear. The common place where they give the elephants signals on movements and directions. I wonder if the type of strokes haven't been trained into her and he was giving her cues along the steps of the painting.
Not trying to be a nay sayer here. But I honestly think there is a degree in training in all of this and not that the elephant "decided" to paint another elephant. Still remarkalbe and shows the animals high level of intelligence, but not like a 5 year old who is using imagination and creativity to draw something with their crayons.
Okay, flame me now guys (but do it on the Stargazer thread, lol)

Re: Must see video. Unbelievable.
Actually, Scott, I would think the same thing. But the originally video that was sent to me by a friend was much more convincing because it showed the elephant doing the entire painting. Anyway, you guys know about snopes.com, don't you? You can look up stuff like this that goes around on the internet to see if it's a hoax or not. If anyone finds it to be a hoax, let us know!

Re: Must see video. Unbelievable.
Yeah, I heard of snopes.com...I wouldn't call it a hoax though even if the elephant is trained to do it. It is amazing that way and even more so if it is truly driven by the elephant itself. Don't get me wrong, I don't think humans give the animal world enough credit. I think we underestimate their ablity to reason, have emotions and the whole gambit of personality. And I will stand up with you Star and say that snakes have emotions, everyone can say what they will, but until we can be a snake, we won't know for sure. Scientist can conjecture about how their brains work all they want, until they can be a snake, they can't know for sure. The brain function may not be the same as what they are using as a standard, so there is alot of room for guess work IMO. Same thing with all this nonsense about dinosaurs. "We know they were pack hunters and were very family oriented..." "we know this type liked to hunt at night due to..." How? How do they know? Well, we compared fossils records....blah, blah blah. Don't get me wrong, I think that is valid study, but you know, until you observe something in its natural habitat, you can "know" how it acts.
Wow, I didn't know how pent up all that was, lol. I could go on, and maybe I should but I don't want to get way off topic on this...
I guess I should have just said what I expected Rev to say........
NICE ELEPHANTS!
