Cage Question
So, still building the cage.
My question is this-we want to put in dividers so that we can expand or shrink the cages as need be, due to growth, breeding, new snake, ect.
I was thinking of using plexi for the dividers, but will it stress my snakes to be able to see the other snakes right next to them? Should I use something non-see through?
Also is there anything I can use to seal it besides polyurethane, because we don't have a garage or anything where it could sit to air out for two weeks...just a back patio which isn't covered, so if it rains or anything, the cage would get wet. We could put it out there for a day or two if the weather was nice but this is south texas and the weather tends to fluctuate a lot.
Help?

Re: Cage Question
One main reason for separate cages, is to prevent stress from cohabitation. I think letting them see each other would defeat the purpose. There certainly wouldn't be any harm in an opaque divider.
I've used Polyurethane in the house before. Is there a room you could let the boards cure in? If you did one or 2 at a time, and opened a window a little, it shouldn't be that bad.

Re: Cage Question
You could also use smooth panelboard or thin veneer/plywood sheets to use for dividers.

Re: Cage Question
Hmmm...wood is an idea. I was just thinking maybe the lighter weight of the plexi would be less harsh on the sealant...my hubby keeps telling my polyurethane is tough as nails but it seems like the dividers sliding in and out would chip away at it or something.
Why is this always easier in your head than to actually do?

Re: Cage Question
Fiber re-enforced plastic board (FRP) this is used in shower surrounds, no treating, cheap, durable and easy to use.

Poly is tough, but can be sanded down. Applying several coats, allowing for it to absorb into the wood, then sanding down with work.
.
Tom's idea was good too.
