Re: 4ft lizards. which is right for me?
Sorry, spike I didn't even see your question. I am almost done with a 6x3x3 for mine.(this weekend I'll be done) The lip is about 1 foot though, so he can have a lot of substrate incase he feels like burrowing one of these days.

Re: 4ft lizards. which is right for me?
i can do 6x3x3. the width is more the issue than anything else. i would love to build a 8x4x3(if i get one) but the 4ft is too wide for my room.

Re: 4ft lizards. which is right for me?
Remember you will need 18-36 inches of dirt for a decent compost and burrow.
Basking spot should be between 120-140F the cage should be at least twice as long as the monitors TL and as wide as the monitors TL.
My advice is do not rush it. Buy Daniel Bennetts book as well as Mark Bayless's. There are some misinformation with both books but the more you talk to monitor keepers the better you will know what questions to ask.
There are a ton more books I can refer you to, but finish those before you buy your sav. Also the diet of a sav is terrible to replicate and one of the biggest problems with savs. Few people have had a sav more than 6 years so reliable info on them is scarce. I have had mine for 3 years, the first year he was a pig, after sexual maturity he just stopped eating. He has withered away to almost nothing despite all his fecal exams and blood work turning up healthy.
You will not find a CBB savannah nor many other monitors. My advice is be certain you want the head ache of the monitor world before getting a monitor. Snakes, iguanas, even tegu are far easier than monitors.

colombian tegus do not hibernate. (tumpinambis teguixin) they grow about 3.5 feet long.
