Ok im going to throw in my 2 cents. Why cut this guy any slack??? He has the internet and has been in the "business" for 18+ years so obviously he had the information at his finger tips and didn't use it. Its people like this that make quick impulse decisions to buy an animal and then once a little hurdle comes along they are quick to get rid of them. This is the exact reason there is a proposed snake ban being thrown around by the federal government. People just like this guy that just needed to have there retic or any other snake for that matter the day they saw it in the pet store. After tiny (or what ever they call there huge snake) gets to big to handle they just have to pawn them off and when they can't they release them into the wild. In my opinion (which probably doesn't mean much but oh well) This guy deserved every mud pie thrown at him and then some. Obviously this guy did not like being called out on his poor husbandry but you know something the truth hurts, but its better then being lied to in the long run. Even if you were to have sugar coated the whole mess for this guy he still would of been offended that you called him out on his husbandry techniques it sadly is just how some/most people are. When you tell them there doing something wrong they will fight to the death to prove they are right.

Just because I, and my girlfriend, have been "bashed" on housing animals together, I'm just going to point this out since it seemed to be the big issue on the other thread. Not to start a fight or anything but because I seem to be missing something.

B. c. occidentalis:
Ideal temps. Degrees will vary from person to person but the idea is pretty much the same.

80ish on the cool side
85 - 90ish on the warm side
Basking of 90 - 95 degrees
(Night mid to high 70s)

Cage humidity should be kept somewhere around 50-70 percent.

P. regius:
Same as above stated.

80 - 85 on the cool side

Now people were bashing the guy because they require different types of niches. The only differences I see are the parts of the world these two animals are from. (Balls are often found in rain forests, and Boa constrictor do not need that high of humidity).

Also, a lot of people house the two animals exactly the same, especially breeders. Paper towels, hide and water bowl running on the same line of heat tape, within the same rack.

The cage appears to be longer than the pic provides - may not be much, but again, I've seen worse by people who are worshipped by many herpers.

My point is, this is the tatic I get a lot because I am an avid mixer of species.(Thought out methods and mixes) So I get a lot of you shouldn't do this or that, kinda kills me because these people are usually recently introduced to the hobby in comparison. I won't get into that, however.

I personally stayed out of the last thread because I do not like attacking people. Errors were made on both sides, so I couldn't defend or advise either.

Just thought I'd throw this up..

Also, just and FYI..
I have seen regius eat each other and Boa constrictor ssp eat each other. Cannablism does exist with these two. And, these were not accidental feedings either..

Thank God no one flamed me when I first got here, keeping my 2 snakes together in one cage. It took me 3 months to make the decision to separate them. If the RTB lynch mob had gone after me, I would have left the site and never separated them.

I think you got that backward.

Might I ask why exactly you mix species? Do you not have enough cages for everyone, or do you just enjoy looking at two different snakes in the same cage? As a general rule I'm a little more lenient with same species pairing...at least the snakes have the same husbandry needs. I personally still wouldn't house them together unless they were breeding. And even then, not permanently. Not to mention, snakes are not social creatures. They get together to procreate and that is about it. So right there you have the stress factor. Then you have the possibility of cannibalism. Then you have the factor of if one snake gets sick, they both do. If one gets mites, they both do. You can't get an accurate stool sample to check if one of them is out of whack because you don't know whose it is.

I'm not trying to "bash" you. But in light of all these cons what is it that makes you want to house them together? What makes it worth it?

On a side note, I sure am sorry I ever posted that ad here. It opened up a can of worms I wasn't expecting.

Yea maybe everyone did kinda jump on him but you have to realize too, that he came flying in here cussing and being a rude putz to everyone. So he wasn't exactly asking for respect there.

This would me more of a topic that would be suited for the debate forum. Please stop the ceaseless arguing and if you wish to discuss the subject of co-species co-habbing, submit this topic to the debate forum according to the TOS provided in the sticky of said forum. If you guys don't knock it off I will have to close this thread too!
