Need A bit of info
Ok Here's the deal. I plan on opening a small exotics store in the future with the help of a buddy of mine. I have a "decent" knowledge of some more mainstream animals you will see in pet stores seeing as I work at a petsmart right now. Exotics, specifically Herps, are my real passion though and I need a little help getting a hold of some info. I know I could just grab some books but that doesn't cut it for me. I have a serious distrust of some published works because of some major differences found in them based on the same species. when I say I need a little info i really want know stuff like links to Printable Care guides, RELIABLE Books and published info, and even just personal experience is great. I need the whole nine yards bout every species of reptile, or exotic in general, you can think of go ahead and send it to me. Fish are not necessarily needed because there is a store in the area that I can refer customers to if needed. I want to make sure The store, and myself, relays accurate and reliable information. I know I'm asking a lot for a new member but I want to be able to get it right. You can reply to this post or send me an e-mail at kiyi.rythian@gmail.com.
Before a post is made Yes I have looked at the Care guides but they do not convey all the information I need such as the arachnids page. W/e that happens to not be on the Care guide page I could use. I'm am not 100% sure what I will carry yet but I have a while to get there. Like I said Previously any info that seems to be missing from this site would be of GREAT help. and If anyone knows whether it be from personal experience or statistics or w/e i could use info like What to expect with Supply & Demand such as how rare an animal is and If I get it will it end up ACTUALLY finding a home or end up staying with me.
Anyway sorry for the long winded post but I could really use any info ya'll and provide.

Re: Need A bit of info
Thank you ^_^. Yeah I'm good with most of the Beardy stuff I have one as well as a Leo. Things like the Less Mainstream Reps and amphibians are what I'm really looking for and I'll definitely contact some of those people for help. Thank you again ^_^.

Re: Need A bit of info
My honest opinion to you, is to go to college for herpetology.
Don't open up a store and act as a teacher to the whole public, when you don't know much about what you're supposed to be an expert in. That's really bad business.
Other than that, read every book you can get your hands on. Talk to every breeder you can find about everything.
Most importantly: read, read, read, read, read. Most books on herps are published because they ARE accurate to at least a decent degree. Ask the breeders what books they'd recommend.

Re: Need A bit of info
Good Books: The complete _______________ (enter reptile of interest).....There are quite a few different ones out there, and by no means is there one for every reptile, but its a good start.

Re: Need A bit of info
Thats actually exactly what I plan on doing. I am going to school now to become a Veterinarian Specialized in Herpetology. And I do know a decent bit about some animals like stated before I can give good info on most commonly found animals. I just want to increase my knowledge as much as possible from people who have had experience with the animals. I would never give information I thought wrong or even questioned slightly. I try my best to give as accurate as possible information on any of the animals I come across now. This is not only for the future business but for myself and the questions that come my way that I Don't happen to know.
I don't intend on even opening the new store for a few years now ^_^ so I think I have plenty of time to learn what I need to learn.
