Re: Hardest reptile species to keep

Biggest varanid I've had come at me would be niles and a black throat. That would be a tough call because from my limited experience, most "charges" have been bluffs, so a simple putting my foot out kept the large niles away, at least the head part anyway, the other end of those critters carry a wallop as well.. As you already know, Im sure.

Baby nile monitors kinda suck..

Also note, I've had a run in with croc monitors and I wasn't so impressed. Same with a lace monitor that I "Had" to watch out for. In my experience, niles deffinately take the cake.

I can agree that certain Varanids are not to be taken lightly.

Re: Hardest reptile species to keep

Yeah I know! this is one of the main reasons I wanted to discuss this. All of the large reptile species are incredibly dangerous. The large constrictors are incredibly fast, can strike about 1/3 their body length and coil at an incredible speed. I think reticulated pythons take the cake in that class. The large varanids are very fast and agile, have nasty bites, dangerous tails and a good set of claws. The crocodilians are the only ones I can not describe because I have never cared for one, so I am glad you are here to fill in the blanks.

All 3 demand respect.
