Breeding permits
I read something on the internet saying you have to have permits to breed exotics for more than three females. Is it true and has anyone gone through the permitting proccess?

Re: Breeding permits
That is news to me. I know it is not a federal thing. Maybe a VA thing. Where did you see it?

Re: Breeding permits
Some guy ranting on a googled website that I don't have the web address to. He said the USDA made the law. Not sure if he was right though.

Re: Breeding permits
It depends on the state you live in. Some require permits, some don't. Texas doesn't, all I did was call up the FWS and ask them.

Re: Breeding permits
In NJ you need a retail sales permit to breed snakes. Check with your state fish and wildlife for your requirements. I do not beleive there are any federal laws.

Re: Breeding permits
VA regs & permit application for certain snakes (Eastern Kingsnake, Mole Kingsnake & Corn Snake) - http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/forms/PERM/PERM-016.pdf
Other than native threatened or endangered animals, crocodilians and animals listed as "undesirable" ie. cane toad, African clawed frog, VA has no state regulations on herps. Some counties within the state like Fairfax and Prince William have county laws that restrict venomous reptiles. The great thing about VA is if you have a valid reason to have a certain restricted animal you can get the permit(s) necessary to keep it.
