Do I annoy you?
I have seen a wide variety of wisecracks recently about how people had better be careful or Morti will take some mean action. (Mean Morti! Mean Morti!).
I am not used to being the mean one. This is a whole new experience for me. In the past here on RTB, whenever I have asked people nicely to do something from my capacity as an admin, people usually have taken this pretty well, done what I asked, and everything was peachy. This concept of accosting the admin because he asked you to change something is really new.
Am I getting old and set in my ways? If your teachers, boss, police, or other authority figure asked you to do something simple (example: Stop Hijacking Threads if they are actually of merit), would you simply keep doing it and add making fun of said person to the list?
I just want to know how everyone feels about this, because frankly, it annoys me.
-Your Sick Uncle Morti.

I voted "Yes! Burn Him! BURN HIM!" But don't feel "special", you don't annoy me any more than anyone else.

Re: Do I annoy you?
I don't see a sensible vote option there for me, so here goes. Surely, being a mod on a site this big is a hard job. We see the end results of all your efforts though, and this is a great site. You (all) should be expected to, and maybe even excused for making a mistake now and then. I think when correcting someone for being playful on this occasion, you made a mistake because you chose the wrong tool. JMO. You may have compounded the error with a post stating what would draw a negative rep vote from Morti. You may not be breaking any rules, written or unwritten. It just seems unreasonable.
Some will disagree, but I think rep should indicate a person's (online) character. Many things should be kept in perspective when you vote for or against someone's rep. If you see a flurry of negative, abusive or otherwise harmful posts from a person, that could be a good reason for a negative vote. If you know it's out of character for the person, maybe they're just having a bad day, and you would be a lot more helpful with a PM. Even a single post could be a good reason if it's bad enough. As a rule though, I think a rep vote should reflect your overall impression of that person. Why? Because of the lasting impact.
I know I'm not really qualified to critique you because I've never been in your position. This is just the feeling I have, from my position.

Re: Do I annoy you?
Whenever you put a line down, it is in the nature of some people to step just to the other side; if there's no reaction, they will take another step, and another, until a boundary is called.
It takes work, and enforcement of rules, to have a site that is not a constant barroom brawl.
I think there are all sorts of sites to appeal to all sorts of people or even the same people depending on what they want at the time. One site, like one person, can't be all things to all people.
I see no unreasonable enforcement here, to the contrary, when I've asked questions of you and, indeed, of anyone here, there have always been courteous responses.
No, you don't annoy me. As the Rev. said, keep up the good work.

Hijacking a thread violates the TOS. Does it call for a negative rep vote?...or maybe a warning? I would think disruptive behavior and an unwillingness to follow the rules after a number of warnings could lead to a ban or suspension of membership. I just don't see the need or effectiveness of voting against rep in this case.

Re: Do I annoy you?
In my mindset, everyone is fair game. Morti, Natas, whoever, everyone gets some ribbing. Comments happen around here all the time, but I think most of it is for fun, sometimes there is a bit of vengence in it, but all in all it's cool. I think some things happen that may seem unfair and maybe they sometimes are, but such is life. We all have different perspectives of things and sometimes we rub one another the wrong way. Overall, I don't think anyone is looking to "take anyone out" but hey stranger things have happened. I mean heck, just look what has happened this year...Louise is back on here posting. If that doesn't say the world is turned upside down, nothing does.

If you mean policing ourselves as in controling ourselves, I agree. If you mean policing ourselves as far as other members than I disagree. That is what leads to all the fighting and arguing in many of the threads. The mods are there to do that job, not us.

All I ask is that you don't leap across the table and kick me in the unmentionables if we happen to encounter each other at a show.

Hey, did someone just hijack Morti's thread about people being upset at him for discouraging hijacking of threads?
Sorta ironic, huh?
