I have always been raised that there is more power with more people. Without going into a long, drawn out story that would take a HUGE post to fill, I want to share with you all here a horror story I had with AOL(America Online).
Basically, I had an AOL account, and cancelled it after a year. AOL continued to bill me for the next three months on my credit card. The first charge was $79.99, the second for $69.50, and the third was for $28.90. The first two were for "memberships" that I had SUPPOSEDLY signed up for. (I never did). The third was for when they "didn't get" my cancellation. The computers "happened" to be down at the time. How a company like AOL has computer problems scares me.
My wife signed up for an account in March, then cancelled in April, as we switched to our local ISP with DSL. 8 months later, we were looking at our phone bill and noticed they have been billing us since then!!!(We have a large family, DSL, so a large phone bill is not uncommon, in case you were wondering why we didn't catch it until now.)
After calling AOL, I got this story on "terms of agreement", 90 day no dispute clause, etc. etc. etc. Bottom line, nothing would be done. I explained to the supervisor that it seemed like bad business sense to refuse a refund of $150.00 that would cost them my account, my wife's, and anybody else I discouraged. The supervisor chuckled at me!!!! What ever happened to customer service? (I also know of 3 other people that have been screwed by AOL as well)
So, if there is anybody out there searching for a new ISP, or your AOL is up for renewal, I am asking that you look again. If anybody else has a similar story, please post. Only by numbers can we teach these large companies that each person DOES count! Please do not support this type of behavior from AOL. Thanks!!

AOL has always been that way and there's hundreds of web pages out there explaining it (do a search for "AOL sucks" . I applaud your effort to "spread the word", but it's been spread and nobody listens until it happens to them.
There is an "AOL-sucks" newsgroup, and even an "AOL Sucks" webring. In spite of all that, there are still millions of computer users that keep flocking to AOL because they can't or won't take the time to learn how to set up their own software for a real ISP.
Anyway, I'll put you down on the list of AOL survivors... If you can convince all the others to leave AOL as well, I'll even get you a badge or trophy or something...

They don't care anyways.... AOL is big business with all the means to screw you anyway possible.
The first way is with that innocent looking free disc they put out.
The second way is with your money and then by their programming which can do some nastys to your puter when you take it off and is also a type of spyware.

LOL Morti! It really is too bad the way this company operates. There is another one too: MNSI(i don't know if you guys in the U.S. have that, but they screw us Canadians!). Typical "BAD" ISP - slow, a lot of pop-ups, bad customer service, and you can't seem to ever stop paying for it.

I've never had any problems with Mindspring. But the best dial-up ISP I ever had was BowieNet (yes that's right, David Bowie has his own ISP.) It was great, it was never slow, cause I think you never had more than 4 people on at any one time. Never got kicked out either. I had to get rid of it, cause he didn't have DSL.

Just giving you grief. I am just amazed at how many people pay way too much for brand name computers.
