Re: The "I Love ..." Thread

I love:

Animals
Conservation
My animals
My dog (He gets a whole section all to himself. He's more important to me than my legs.)
My man
Happy Panda's Orange Chicken
Coffee ice cream
Roleplaying (DnD!!!!)
Animal training
Steve/Terri/et all Irwin
Photography
Modeling
Writing novels
TOE SOCKS!!
Doing things that people say I can't. (ie - That lizard will never let you hold it. *gets kisses from said lizard* That snake bites everyone. *Uses that snake in photography and we all have a great time* That dog is untrainable. *Shows everyone a perfect sit, heel, down, wait, stay.* Ahhhh so nice.)

Most of all(besides my dog) I love walking into a classroom with my snakes... Half the kids are nervous, shying away to the back of the class. "Eww snakes! EEE snakes!" and I get them all sitting and calm and I start bringing them out... I get so excited, I answer all their questions, I debunk al lthe things they've heard about snakes that are untrue.... And one by one their eyes light up as they get a taste for the passion I feel so strongly for my reptiles, for all the world's creatures.

I love seeing those kids grow to love my snakes, too. My lizards, tarantulas, scorpions... anything. That they can love more than just cats and dogs and birds and things. That these scalie little things need more love and understanding than cats and dogs, because they can't communicate with us hardly at all.

I went once, to a class at the beginning of the school year. The kids begged and begged and begged their teacher to have me back, so at the end of the school year I went back for one of the last school days. One young boy asked me where my rosy boa was. I told him that my rosy had gotten very sick, and had passed away. He cried. It broke my heart all over again, not just for the love of the snake I had lost, but that a little boy, a stranger to my animals, was so sad because I had lost one.

THAT... is what I live for. That is what I love, above all else. That I can connect with kids, and get them so passionate about these creatures that maybe I'll see a day where igs aren't dropped off at shelters anymore, people buy burms and KEEP them until they die of old age. A day when people won't e-mail me, "OMGZ! My ball python's eyes are blue is he dying?"
