13-Foot Python
Not as bad as some might think...
This is an article on my city's newspaper website.
Turns out a 13 foot python got out and was found outside...
Now, they passed a law (Jan 1) for Python owners to microchip their python AND get a permit.

Re: 13-Foot Python
That is rediculus. Lets cut your python open and stick a foreign chip in its body just so that we can control what people do with there pets even more. Goverment is getting to much power. Thats why we have to take the power back!!! Stuff like this just "ticks" me off.

Re: 13-Foot Python
I think it is good that they can find who is responsible for letting the python go or it escaping. I think it should be mandatory for dogs also. The problem with chipping an animal like a python with out having a law is if the snake is found odds are the shelter it goes to will not bother checking for an identichip.

Re: 13-Foot Python
Maybe that's apart of the law - to check for microchips.

Now that it is a law in FL, you better believe pythons found will be checked for microchips. I thought about putting them in my reptiles here in Illinois, but since there is no law, it really depends on who finds the animals to bother to check for a chip. I doubt Illinois rescues will even bother unless it is taken to a reptile vet who is familiar with chipping reptiles.

Re: 13-Foot Python
BTW... they don't cut open the animal to put the chip in... it's injected with a large needle.
I also have thought about getting microchips in some of my turtles and snakes, especially my albino boa, should anyone break in and steal any of them...
