My earliest memory of keeping herps is from about 7 years of age when I went out to some ponds in the very early spring and gathered all the frogs I could carry in a huge cloth sack. They were still hibernating and I did not know better.
Guess I have always loved them but I can't really explain why.

I went with other. To me they are the closest things to dragons and giant serpents I can keep. They are the mythical leviathans and monsters stories are made from, and to me nothing is more humbling. I no longer need to drool over the dinosaurs in Jurassic park, I can clean their poop in my own house.

I've loved herps ever since I was old enough to stuff frogs into my pockets and try to sneak them into the house.  though it wasn't until I got my first snake in 2000 (unlike the garter snakes I'd keep for a few days and release) and was REALLY bitten by the 'bug'.
I've been addicted to the beauties ever since. Boids, ball pythons in particular have won me over. |
