Am I the only one who's "scared" to get tagged even if.....
Am I the only one who's "scared" to get tagged even if I KNOW it doesn't hurt?
I've had my boa constrictor for a couple of months. I've gotten bitten twice.
The last time I got bitten, I was picking it up from soaking it and I guess he might've been hungry or something. It didn't coil, but after he bite and felt like he shook for like 1/2 sec he left go.. That was about 2 months ago
After that I've been hesitant. When I take him out, I always use a (substitute) snake hook.
Is it just me? He's about 3 1/2 feet long and it doesn't hurt when he tags me, but I guess you can say I'm a little "scared" of being bitten because of the surprise factor.
I guess it's somewhat like a roller coaster for me. I'm more anxious about waiting and going up than the actual ride.

I don't think anyone enjoys being tagged. I know even though it doesn't hurt it scares the heck out of me when they come flying at me. It is only natural to avoid getting attacked by any animal. I think the speed of the attacks from reptiles make them much more intimidating than most other animals.

I haven't been bitten either, but I'm not sure I believe it wouldn't hurt.

It depends on where and how hard they get ya. I have had boas that I haven't even noticed until I started dripping on the floor, and others that lit me up.
It takes lots of time spent getting to really know your snake in order to get over that apprehension. Once you can pretty accurately predict what your snake is going to do to any stimulus, you have less fear because you know you are far less likely to get bit.

Re: Am I the only one who's "scared" to get tagged even if.....
when I first got my job working with all the snakes at the store, i got bit everyday by something, now im used to it and have learned how not to get bit, but I still flinch if they strike, and i still am very cautious when they look like there gonna bite, my lil baby JCP bites me all the time, not as much now that hes older, but he still does once in awhile, and I still try my hardest not to get bit, like morti sayd, some are barely anything and you dont notice them, others are like WHAM, my IJ is a sweet heart and has never bit me with the intention of biting me, but lately she has gotten this habbit of getting in a mild strike position and staring at my arm whenever I reach in her cage, that kinda freaks me out a bit, I am thinking of getting a white lipped python soon, so that guy will definatly keep me on my toes. A snake bite is ALWAYS in my expierience more of a surprise and shock then pain

Re: Am I the only one who's "scared" to get tagged even if.....
I think it is more the speed and anticipation than the bite. Getting bit by my retic did not hurt but I was nervous when she wrapped my arm and would not let go. Getting bit by a monitor is a different story. It hurts and is scary.
