Another bite today; crazy!
I had read the burm bite thread, and was chuckling to myself about it while cleaning out water dishes for my snakes. I took them in to my snake/bed room. I opened up Aroura's vision cage, reached in, made a spot for the dish, put it down, and glanced at the previously sleeping snake to notice he's eyeballing my arm in that "I am so going to kill you" sort of way.
Well, when my other snakes give various bits of my anatomy that look, I reach over and use the palm of my hand to push their heads gently down onto their substrate. This has ALWAYS worked for me.
I turned my hand to do just this to Aroura, but he was already in mid-strike and caught my whole hand in his mouth. He threw a coil over my wrist, which I caught in my other hand. Evidently, I squawked like a crow.
My roommate Leslie leapt up and asked if I was ok.
In a very calm, happy voice I responded, "Oh yeah. I'm fine. I'm only getting bit."
Which left her in a rather stunned silence for a few minutes. Long enough that Aroura let go of me on his own and I patted his head and closed the cage. Drip drip drippity drip... I had blood dripping all the way down to my elbow. It was really impressive.
I showed everyone in the house, and no one, NO ONE had a camera. *sniffle* I couldn't get a pic. I tried though! I'll get pics of the closed up wounds tomorrow. It'll still be impressive. LOL
The darn thing took an entire towel to -stop- bleeding, and then seven band-aids to keep it that way. o_o
But naw, I grossed everyone out, and three of my roommates commented that I'm "totally hardcore".
I'm moderately smug. I mean heck, I was only bit by a seven foot long boa; and I only managed to keep my composure the entire time(except for my startled squawk).
Mwahahaha!

Re: Another bite today; crazy!
Thanks for cracking me up today! Ya know they love you. This is one of a very few ways they have to show it! lol I've gotten bit quite a few times now. I just go on about my day as if nothing happened. I do talk to them, though. I say "no bitey on mommy!"

Re: Another bite today; crazy!
I worked at a locked correctional facility for Emotionally Disturbed inner city teens for a good while. Funny how the training for what you do when being bit by a 15 y/o in a restraint is quite the same as snakes...except the snakes teeth are usually a bit sharper. Sorry to hear about the bite.
