Close call, much?
So, I had Lego, my het albino female BP out for a bit. I went to go put her back just now and went to set the hood for her heat-light and whatnot back on the top of her tank, when I hear sparking.. smell smoke, and glance down at the little switch (one of those little ones with the wheel-clicker, if that makes sense) and it's sparking like mad, smoking and on FIRE of all things! Instantly drop down, unplug it cord from the socket and pull the hood off to snuff the potential wild-fire out away from the tanks.
I freaked out a bit, set a fan in the room to blow the smoke out of it so it doesn't bother the snakes too much, but JESUS. I've had this thing for a few years, so it's old.. but I popped the switch casing open once it cooled off, to see what'd gone on inside. It wasn't the pieces inside that were the problem, but for some reason the cord, just where it disappears into the plastic casing, was melted and burnt, so I'm gonna assume there was some sort of friction that wore away at the protective rubber and exposed the wire. I dunno why I didn't notice this sooner, I hadn't had a problem with it until today, I'm just glad I was there when it decided to act up... who knows what would've happened had I been out of the house or something.

I'm glad I was at home, too! Man, if anything happened to my babies because of something like that, I'd be devastated..

Re: Close call, much?
I seriously dont know what I'd do. I couldn't live with my self for that because I'd know that somehow, some way I could have prevented it. And it seems like dying in a fire would be one of the worst ways to go *Cuddles all her animals* Wow...
Man
Just glad everythings ok *Sigh of relief*

One of those switches attatched to the cord, that have that little round disk on the side that you roll your thumb along to turn it, and turn the lights on and off. They're on most lamps, I just can't remember the proper name for them..
Here we go, one of these things.

If it's a dimmer-switch, it doesn't do a very good job dimming. All it's ever done is turn the light on and off, it doesn't control the amount of electrical flow into the device...
