I think your dog looks like a white Burmese mountain dog. Great looking dog BTW.

I am sorry but this is silly to discuss, when people here own alligators and constrictors. All animals are dangerous some more than others but banning them would eventually have to lead to a ban of all animals, every single one.
Statistics are far from scientific evidence. If you are going to say it is hereditary violence, please bring some real scientific evidence.
Lets play the number game here,
"A more specific profile of a serial killer has been presented by Apsche (1993) stating that most are white males in their twenties or thirties, who target strangers near their homes or places of work. "According to criminologist Eric Hickey, who has assembled the most extensive database on demography of serial murder states that, 88% of serial killers are male, 85% are Caucasian, and the average age when they claim their first victim is usually around 28.5."
Great I am going to get banned for being a white male in my 20-30's. Or better yet.
"A subsequent United States Department of Justice report which surveyed homicide statistics between 1974 and 2004 stated that of the crimes surveyed, 52.1% of the offenders were Black, 45.9% were White, and 2% were Other Races."
So are we going to ban the two most offenders from living in the united states?

So because of the negligence of a few all have to suffer.

Nothing excuses a dog for killing a defenseless person or animal. Many factors can contribute to the event though, and even if the statistics showed a trend, that does not mean you can predict a dog's behavior all the time. The same goes for snakes or any other animal...and other breeds of dogs. Yes, the same goes for children. If a kid all of a sudden becomes a serial killer, we always want to know why, and see if we can blame the parents or upbringing. The last thought that comes to mind, is that the kid (or dog) had a mind of his or her own, and made a decision, despite a good, nurturing upbringing, and maybe even normal precaution on the part of the dog owner.

I understand what you're say about individual differences. And I agree that temperament, tolerance of interaction and behavior can vary greatly between individuals. However, (I'll go back to snakes to use as a comparison) if I catch a black rat snake I know there is probably a 50% chance I'll get bit, if I catch a norther water snake, black racer or coachwhip I know the odds of being bit increase dramatically simply due to their nature.
Based on the statistics, I see a problem with pits and rots being unpredictable and aggressive. As I stated before, I know that there are great pits and rots out there but see the trend as disturbing.

No, getting a license to keep animals is not making anyone suffer provided they can show responsibility. Too often it is the animals that ends up abused, dead or suffering. That needs to be stopped as much as the human fatalities and the best way to do both is by limiting who can own an animal much like who can drive, or own a gun. Freedom does not give us the right to own and do what ever we want with no repercussions. If we are to encourage responsibility in drinking, hunting, driving, or any other potentially dangerous situations animals are no different.

Re: Dog Rips Child From Mother's Arms
That makes sense John. Here's my question though. What percentage of rotts in America attack people? Same question for Pitts? I mean out of all the ones here, how many are "problem dogs"? They are 2 of the most popular breeds.
