Dog inherits $12M
Leona Helmsley Leaves $12M to Her Dog, but Nothing to 2 Grandchildren
FOXNews.com - Leona Helmsley Leaves $12M to Her Dog, but Nothing to 2 Grandchildren - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News
Now how will a dog spend all that money? He needs someone to help him.
I'm sorry; this bothers me. Of course she had a right to do whatever she wanted with the money. It sends a clear signal to her friends and family, including her own children and grandchildren, that the dog was more important!

Just shows that even in death she really was a true "witch" with a different spelling!

Wonder if they can contest the will as she was not in her right mind when it was written?

Re: Dog inherits $12M
I will state first that I have no clue who Helmsley is. So take my comments for what you will.
12 Million is a lot of money, nearly impossible to spend that on a dog for it's lifetime. I imagine someone must be getting the atleast $11.5 million dollar leftovers.
And I don't know if this is the part of what you guys feel is wrong, but I personally have accounts for each of my dogs, my cat, and my snake where I deposit a certain amount of money to each per week. I've done this for 8 years now (in my dogs and cats case) and recently opened one for my snakes and the two dogs I am adopting. If I were to die all the money in those accounts go to the care for my pets, what's left over when they die go to my family.
12 million is excessive I don't disagree but I'd think there's more to this than meets the eye.

That's what I mean. Logically, I'd think the other two grandkids get the money when the dog dies.

Hmm, If I was one of the grandchildren, that dog would have to be watching his back.....

Re: Dog inherits $12M
No, the money won't go to them if the dog dies, necessarily.
I'm sure she named an "executor or administrator" to carry out her wishes. I'm sure there was something covering the grounds in the event the dog dies.
Everyone is talking about how awful she was, maybe we should consider the fact that the grandkids and kids possibly weren't the nicest folks either
I guess I'm a bit sensitive after going through this with my husband.
His dad passed away and left no will, which means the biological kids inherit. The ex wife and ex step son-with his wife and father in law, stepped in and planned the funeral, cut my husband out of it, and stole things from the house.
They felt they were entitled, and my argument this entire time has been, "obviously the man didn't feel TOO fondly about the ex wife and ex step son, or he'd have adopted or provided for him in the will." Maybe that is heartless, but so is cutting a son out of the most important part of a death, the final goodbye.

Wow --- so you know something about the pain this kind of thing can cause!!! It's at a time like that, that you sometimes really get to know people and what they are capable of...both good and bad.
As for that lucky dog, I hope he remembers his poor mangy starving little mongrel friends in the ghetto.
