Been Herping? poll
I am curious how many people have gone herping. I know that many people (probably a majority) enjoy herps in captivity as a primary interest. But I wonder how many have gone out of their way looking for herps. So let's divide into a few categories:
1. Never been herping
2. Looked for herps around the house or neighborhood
3. Gone out locally with friends or a society a couple times
4. Go on long herping trips at least a few times a year
5. Travel all over the US and abroad on herping trips
Now when I say "herping trip", I don't mean poking around in the bushes while on a Disney World trip. I mean trips for the primary purpose of herping.

We should all make more of an effort to get together and get out there.

Re: Been Herping? poll
Every chance i get..In the summer I am on call for snake removal so I get
to catch different snakes all the time.
These could be inside a residence, school, factory, hospital ect,
but sometimes Im called to idylic rural settings where ill check the surrounding scrub for more animals.
Then I get to release them, which is a buzz in its self.
Also I make special trips quite often to see what I can see in the outback.

Re: Been Herping? poll
I have never been except when I was little and would bring home reptiles from the local lake. I plan to go when I can get some vacation money together, but I will probably skip U.S. reptiles and head to Thailand to bother Michael, They just have bigger reptiles Florida is also on the to do list as is Australia and Africa. If it can't grow to 100+lbs I am not interested in actively looking for it.

Re: Been Herping? poll
I live in a very urban neighborhood, right next to a college. Not many rocks or brush that they could even be in. I used to go lookin for garter snakes around the house growing up, as they were everywhere. One time my brother, some friends and i cought over 30 garter snakes in just a few hours, all within 100 ft of my house. Now I havent seen a garter in 10 or more years. its sad. they got pretty much killed off by development.

Re: Been Herping? poll
I am getting more and more into it every year. I was depressed for a long time because I couldn't find anything here... then I learned some of the secret Kentucky spots and tricks.

Re: Been Herping? poll
i spend about 15 hours a week herping, mostly for pictures and an excuse to get dirty. i don't really plan elaborate herping trips and prefer to do it alone, though. i've never been herping anywhere exotic although i'd love to. the mrs. turned a planned trip to costa rica into a week on florida's panhandle.

Re: Been Herping? poll
I've never been herping but I always seem to find all of the reptiles in the places I hike. Which is the nice thing about having dogs, they smell the reptiles I think and guide me to it. So I check it out and it's cool to see. I end up seeing bears deers coyotes etc because of that too. It's fun. But never specifically to find them though.
