Dumb Doctors
I got a call from my old neighbor south of here asking if I would bring my horse down and help him gather his cattle off what used to be my ranch. They had crossed a section of fence that was flattened in the big snows last winter and his reasoning for calling me was that I knew the ranch better than anyone so I could probably find the cattle easily and pick a good drive route back to his place.
Anyway, I took Hevovetas (Cheyene for Whirlwind) and off we went. Stupid me, I have not ridden since I sold the place 3 years ago, I screwed up a jump I have made a hundred times in the past and tumbled into a small ravine. The horse did not tumble, I was not set in the stirrups right so only I fell. Hevovetas just stopped on the other side to wait for me but I got knocked cold.
George saw me fly from the saddle and found me unconscious so he called his son to come help and between the two of them they loaded me in their pick up and headed toward the hospital.
The dumb doctors wanted to keep me over night for a simple bump on the head, which I would have none of. Then they told me I have a fractured collar bone and it is an old injury that has never properly/completely healed.
The stupid part is that they wanted to schedule me for a further appointment to determine if surgery was required.
Here I am checking myself out AMA and they think I am going to go for a future visit? Not a chance, I hate doctors and hospitals. I’ve had problems with that shoulder since a longhorn bull knocked me through a corral fence 4 or 5 years ago but it is manageable and the arm works. What would make them think I would waste good money on surgery.
I did agree to wear a sling, because my wife gave me the look when I started to protest, and because I can just slip it out of the way if I need to use both hands for something.
I hope George gets the rest of his cattle gathered up without a problem. I told him the most likely spots to find the few we had not already gathered when I fell. As for me, well let's just say I won't making that mistake again any time soon.

Re: Dumb Doctors
I can't stand doctors either. In fact, I went to my doctor this past July for a check up, and without telling me, she ran $1,118 worth of bloodwork etc because of some pains I was having. I knew of 1 test, and 1 test only that was to be ran. Now my insurance doesn't want to cover the bills because it was unnecessary testng. I tell you I am ticked. So supposibly my doctors office is going to try and help me out, but every time I call they send me to a voicemail and noone ever calls me back. So fine, I will just raise *you know what* when I get the bill. Ugh.
What erks me more, is that they were like "do you want it on a payment plan?" NO! Money is not the issue. I can cough it up all day everyday no problem. The issue is that the doctor did this w/o my permission. I can understand *normal* bloodwork, but this was like $150 + per test. I should have been informed of this before she even thought of running those tests. And what's worse is that she knew how much those tests were, because the woman who does the billing for the doctors office said that this isn't the first time this has happened.

Re: Dumb Doctors
I was already checking myself out against their advice and they told me they wanted me to think about wasting money (probably thousands) on surgery for an old injury I have been functioning very well with for the past 4 or 5 years? That dog don't hunt around me.

Very much the same as today. I get a bump on the head and the ex-ray me all over inspite of the fact that everything was working fine.
They wanted our insurance info and went into convulsions when I told them I didn't have any. The wife wrote them a check for the charges they had already figured up and told them to send us a bill for anything left.
Insurance comapnies are my second least favorite people.

Re: Dumb Doctors
My father nearly had his one kidney removed because of a "tumor" that end up being old scar tissue from Bilarzia he had as a young man when he was in the Army. I always say Docters only need to know 50% to pass their exams and forget most of it in a few years.
