Shelter remodel update
For those of you who do not know, I have headed up a "facelift" committee to try and fix up the run down cat shelter I volunteer at. Here is the link:
http://redtailboa.net/forums/just-ta...eeds+your+help
Update: My right hand person has just quit due to a lot of back biting and negativity among shelter board members and staff. It was a huge loss and puts a huge burden on my shoulders to continue the work. I don't know if I'm up for it. The organization is very dysfunctional, and that is why the place has been allowed to run down in the first place. Nothing ever gets done because there is so much resistance to change. The unfortunate victims are the 250 cats who really deserve a nice environment. I still have a vision that with the remodel, more people will come in and adopt. So I will continue on with the project. There is so much work to do, and now more of it is on my shoulders. Any moral support is appreciated. My morale is down right now. I have so many better things to do than fighting with crusty old board members. But I keep thinking about the kitties. If the shelter goes down, 250 cats will be without homes and many will be put down.

Re: Shelter remodel update
Good luck Stargazer. It sounds like you're the last hope for a lot of cats. I sure hope it works out.

Re: Shelter remodel update
wow, Im so sorry to hear about what is happening... I hate hearing about homeless pets. 250 cats, thats a lot! I cant imagine how you must feel... but if it is something you strongly believe in then nothing can stop you from doing it, even if your right hand person has left... you can get through anything if you try really really hard! It may seem near impossible to u now, but when its finished you will feel incredable and you wont have to worry about the kitties as much! good luck! If i lived closer i would defanitly give u my time but unfortunitly i cant I hope everything turns out great.

Re: Shelter remodel update
Thanks both of you. You don't know how much this support means. It has actually turned out to be quite a bit of work, mostly on the phone because committee/board members do not all have email. However, I have a vision for this shelter and how it can look, and I will carry on. I had a similar vision for my first condo. When I was done remodeling it, buyers were actually having bidding wars over it. I am very artistic with a good sense of color, but trying to get my ideas through to crusty old board members who don't like change will not be easy. Left to them, everything would be brown.

Re: Shelter remodel update
Latest update: The board voted to let us do the remodel/redecorating. They also trust me to be in charge of the project and pick all the colors and so on. In addition, I have a very dedicated group of about 5 people who are helping with this project. This will be huge and may actually make the shelter newsworthy. I was so happy after the board meeting, I sat down and cried. I think the other person leaving was a blessing in disguise. I will post "after" pics when it's done.
