They have to exist
Both of my dogs have allergies. I have been trying to find an antihistamine dog treat to no avail. Has anyone heard of such a thing? I know something like it has to exist.

Re: They have to exist
BW I have heard of these for dogs but as far as I know are only available through a Vet. I also believe they have to be given through injections.

Re: They have to exist
I think he's looking for a treat with antihistamine in it, so the dog will TAKE it..lol
My vet once told me my dog needed more fatty acids in her diet to help in her allergy problem. I don't know if that will help your dogs, or not.
Benadryl, Tavist and Chlor Trimeton are the only ones I'm aware of that are used in dogs.
What do you think they may be allergic to? Local molds or pollens?
The only thing I would recommend is getting soft dog treats or wet dog food and smushing the pill into the treat/food. That, or use the liquid form and just squirt it in their mouths.
I've never heard of the treat form of antihistamine, but it would be nice if ALL oral pet meds could be made edible.

Re: They have to exist
Finding an antihistamine is not the problem. THere are about 20 different ones for dogs and I can order any I need. And several OTC meds for humans work great. It is the means of administering that is the problem. Cracking open a couple capsules and mixing the contents in Peanut Butter gets old when you are doing it every morning. I am looking for an easier solution.

Re: They have to exist
BW, my wife worked at a vets for 5 years before she died and benadryl was the choice he always went with and it never failed. I seem to recall we had caplets instead of capsels for our dog and we cut them in half due to her size, which would of course depend on size and you've been around enough to know that. But we went through all the peanut butter, treat crap, and the stupid dog always seemed to be able to find the pill and spit it out. I found the easiest and quickest way was to open the dogs mouth (hold tongue down and they can't shut their mouths) toss the pill to the back, and close the mouth and rub their throat (softly) three or four times, --- never failed. The main thing is to find out dosage/weight ratio.

Re: They have to exist
There's a product on the market called "Pill Pockets", and they're soft treats that are like little cups. You just put the pill in, squeeze it closed, toss it to the dogs, and if they're typical inhaler-types, you have a medicated dog.
