Reptiland --- Du Killer
I ALREADY POSTED THIS ON OTHER SITES, BUT WANTED TO SHARE IT WITH ALL OF YOU AS WELL!!
Okay, if you ever, EVER, get within 200 miles of Allenwood, Pa --- you've got to make the trip to Clyde Peeling's ReptiLand. It is an absolute must, if you love herps!
Here is the website, but it doesn't do it justice:
Clyde Peeling's Reptiland - Allenwood, PA
I took the kids here on Friday a few weeks ago and then we drove down to Hamburg and stayed overnight to go to the Northern Berks Country Reptile Show. We had a ball, and I got alot of pics. I chose some of the best to share with you and it will need to be done in multiple posts because there are so many...so enjoy, and again, if you can get there, get there,...
Let me begin by saying this place, although small, is on every bit the level of some of the national aquariums that I have been too. Clean, great displays, really professional looking. I was very impressed.
Sign with my two kids (not our car)
Entrance
This is the Cafe inside (wonderful food and prices aren't unreasonable)
And the gift shop
This is one of the many bamboo groves. The plant life is top notch as well, didn't take many pics though because batteries were dying.
We were the first through the doors that day and after exiting main building to get to the animals, this guy greeted us and even gave us a show. We were able to walk up and touch the fan and he didn't care one lick.

Re: Reptiland --- Du Killer
One thing that really impressed me is that this place started out as a little show that a guy started doing and has grown to this. It isn't some money driven place, but one that cares for the animals and does active conservation and education. Look at the site and see the stuff that they do it is great. One of the things they do well is the education. Every exhibit is not only clearly marked with stats, but there is more info given on the animal and they are all about education.
Here is a few examples of just the stuff around the areas where you view the animals, inside and out.
They also do many shows throughout the day, the first one we went to consisted of a short movie explaining reptiles and the need to care for them and their conservation and gave basic info, then the one guy came and brought out a baby alligator and spoke about them and answered questions, then let anyone touch it who wanted, then brought out a boa and spoke on them and let people ask questions and touch it as well.
Later in the day there was a hot show
Monster
Diamondback
copperhead
Cobra that didn't want to come out, but kept popping it's head up.
Before the animals came out, he discussed venomous and while getting out the snakes and the monster he talked about the different types of venom and it was truly educational. At the end he pulled something out, that for me made the whole trip, but I'll save that for the end of this thread and the last pic.

Re: Reptiland --- Du Killer
Here is for the turtle lovers....I couldn't include all the turtle and tortise pics on here, but they were amazing as well, every type you could think of
Here is a turtle pond that had box, painted, wood, and pond turtles in it, beautiful set up and cool to watch them basking in the sun.
coolest turtle in the world, the MataMata turtle
And the big boys --- Galapagos
There also were other big tortises that were a type that started with an 'a' don't remember the name and a huge wood turtle, also different aquatic turtles
Now for the many others --- this is really only a fraction of what they have:
King Cobra
Gaboon Viper
you could buy feed for the emus from one of those gumball machines, but I think you were suppose to throw it to them, I leaned over the fence and hand fed them despite the many hard pinches from the beaks and the blood blisters I got,
Here's a water monitor in a really cool enclosure, I had a better pic of him, but not the enclosure, they really go topnotch in their habitats and caging.
They have a separate alligator house for their two alligators
And lastly of the separate pics, -- this guy was huge!!!! and he had a huge enclosure as well.
Okay one more set of pics that will reveal the best thing about going there for me.

Re: Reptiland --- Du Killer
The best thing about the trip, was that I got to spend it with these two ladies who had a great time...(alligator snapper in the tank)
It was a great family time for us and the thing that amazed me, was my oldest daughter...many of you know she is scared to death of snakes to the point of just now being able to touch a shed. Durring the shows she touched the alligator ---- AND the boa (which she still hasn't even touched mine hardly at all) And at the end of the hot show, the guy explained the difference between the coral and milk/king snakes and he got one out just as he did with the other hots and asked the audience if it was venomous or not. It was a milk that my daughter noticed immediately and when it came time to touch it, they both were the last ones to leave....for my youngest that was no big deal, she would sleep in the tanks with the snakes if I let her, for the oldest who would shake uncontrolably and almost hyperventilate, it was a complete breakthrough, she even got to the point that she wants our milksnake now moved in her room!!!!
SHe has been touching the snakes since then and has been asking alot of questions, then she asked yesterday to do this:
Again, I have been so proud of her and she is getting bolder and bolder with them and it is great to be able to share this all with her.
