Is it just me, or are there more female herpers than males? Several years ago, I noticed most of the people I met who were into reptiles (few to begin with) were female. I also noticed that when I would go online and drool over pics of snakes for sale, a lot of the breeders were female. When I was a young'un, I was under the belief that females were more likely to have developed a fear of snakes, and that there weren't particularly many who liked them. Apparently, I was wrong. What do you think?

I know more male herpers then I do female,
but that is probably due to my inherent ability to drive off anything female
except my daughter of course.

HMM, well I have 25, 3 ball pythons, 2 western hognoses, 2 gophers and 18 boas. Does that make me a female herper?

Something I've questioned myself Chris. Seems there is a fast majority of female herpers.

lol...I have noticed this about humans. It is far easier for women to overcome fear of snakes than men. Women for the most part no matter how squeemish usually start out....ackkkk no way...I'm not coming in there...ok maybe for a second if ya promise not to throw it on me.....oh wow he is pretty....can I just touch his tail? ....2 minutes later...OMG...I can't believe I'm holding a snake...*note* meanwhile, their big rough tough redneck boyfriends have locked themselves in the truck where they are checking and double checking to make sure the 357 is loaded. I had a party a few years ago...every girl there ended up with a snake....even the ones deathly afraid of them up until that point. 2 guys got up and left even though there were no snakes out downstairs where they were....they just couldn't be in the same house. Men that fear snakes seem to be quite content about it and not much anyone can say or do will usually sink into their thick ignorant skulls. I think what it really is, is that they want to maintain their justification for running over them on the roads. grrrrr

HHHHMMM , Im female and could it be that we can just relate to animals so much better than men can..could be that we know how to handle just about anything that comes our way and for some reason i know a lot more women that love snakes and all reptiles a lot more than men..I for one seem to have what they call a loving and careing green tumb in reptiles and arachnids,,and all other animals.. Could be that some women are very fasinated with these creatures..some women like the way they feel and how they dont get any flack back from them when they are with there fav. critter.. This is what i think.. But then again im a female hehehehehehehe!!!!! Go figure! You're not complaining are ya Chris?!?! I would much rather see a boa draped over [enter one of RTB.NET's many beautiful women's names] than I would Eddie or Jules any day of the week! <TABLE BORDER=0 ALIGN=CENTER WIDTH=85%><TR><TD><font class="pn-sub">Quote:</font><HR></TD></TR><TR><TD><FONT class="pn-sub"><BLOCKQUOTE> It is far easier for women to overcome fear of snakes than men. </BLOCKQUOTE></FONT></TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE> I agree 100%. Seems like as soon as a man states that he does not like snakes, he feels that to go back on his statement would make him wrong or something. Even after he sees his 90 lb girlfriend holding the snake she claimed to be deathly afraid of 10 minutes earlier lol. -Juggalo
