I believe everyone here just got extremly emotional since we ALL care about Lori so much. I understand anxiety leading to defensive behaviour and I have chosen to interpret this thread in that light.
Lori, I am so pleased with the results of your home inspection. I knew you would overcome!
Pretend I am giving you a huge hug, I am happy for you and your family (human and otherwise). This is wonderful news.
I also want to take this oppurtunity to express to everyone here at RTB, you are like family to me, I sure wish you all could learn to accept and respect each other, irregardless of differences. For the most part, this community is great about that. I just wish that before replying to a thread, people would take a deep breath and try to see things through the other person's point of view. I bet you a would realize that written word can and does sound harsher than usually intended. Remember, life is too short to look for excuses to be angry with each other.

and that the dss did their job as they should. They investigated, saw it was safe, and left. It's a shame that they don't get called more often to the places where they are really needed, but it's nice to hear for once that they didn't make someone's life a living #$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^& when they didnt need to. It's a bummer that they put a scare on you, but it's good too see that everything is OK now.

Firstly, well said Natas. I've been a member of this site for a few months now and while I am not a particularly active member (many people with shorter memberships have posted much more than I have) and I really don't know many of you, I do like to think of this site as a community of like minded people doing what we love.

The Global reptile community is under threat from outside agencies every day and from all angles (health, animal care, import/export etc...) and if we are going to live through it then we need some solidarity here. #$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^&, for all I know you might all think I'm some kind of weirdo who just keeps coming back, but I don't care. What I DO care about is my reptiles, and BoaBabes reptiles, and Lori's reptiles and everybody elses reptiles and our right to keep them. I will fight for our right to keep reptiles until the day I die and I hope that you all would fight with me, along with every other herper worldwide. The only way we can ever hope to achieve this is through the efforts of people like Natas, who has built what has to be the best online reptile community ever. Let's keep it that way! The last thing the community needs is people attacking each other from within.

This is NOT what we have all worked for RTB to become in the herping world. I was going to delete that lil "attack" with the inaccurate statements of "facts" made in regards to me in the realm of previous dss involvement, and noted that such would be termed as a form of public slandering, given that it is not fact, BUT left it and answered to it as I knew that others had prolly seen it by the time I had anyway. I have NEVER in my life had any type of dss involvement with my children or any under my care in a fashion against me as was parlayed in that post....

I have though served on a local task force for dss up to about a year ago trying to help eradicate the "horror" that some children live in this day and age. Also as I have said..I have filed complaints in regards to my niece and nephew too with them. Such is a completely different thing and NOT what was stated in the thread here.
When people do NOT have their facts straight and make such posting it is considered slanderous activities in the legal sense. We do NOT need that crap here on RTB at all ! When something like thatgets posted here on RTB , it also brings the site down too. Something we do NOT need !
I will not partake in this sort of activity here on RTB and or any other site. If I answer any post in which my name is mentioned I shall only post actual facts..not personal thoughts..and that goes for RTB also. I suggest others do the same also.....
As for my name being mentioned yet again on MOI..I have received all the ims, emails and pm's on it and have seen what was said...I will be posting a reply to such but only with facts also and will not get into it here on RTB. Please don't send me anymore notes in relation to what's going on in MOI..I am aware of it and will address it over there...at some point.....

On the original reason for this thread...I'm actually thinking of offering to link with dss and provide some reptile education shows for nothing for them....once I am 100% through with what's going on of course. Maybe that'll help alleviate anyone else who keeps here locally from going thru what i have had to this week and give them more understanding in the world of reptiles...Not to mention the kids would benefit from it also that they service too. I just wanted to say that I am glad everything has worked out for you Lori, I have a few nosy neighbors that wouldn't hesitate to call DSS on me for keeping reptiles or anything for that matter! Shane, thank you! Your post said it all. Until I had read that I was not planning on coming back. As it is, I have hardly been here for the past few days (nothing in comparison to before). I never wanted all of this to happen, and honestly wish it could all be just forgotten. My first post here was out of line, and I have now apoligised for it in three posts, I hope this can all be put in the past now. All I want is to learn more, and help others.

lori- i got soooo scared for a minute! that is terrible. i wish that would never have happened to you. really sucks! i am glad you had the chance to voice your side with out them doing something drastic, to find out later nothing was wrong!

hey, doc owens over at bob clark's site had a similar problem. when they checked up on him- they were impressed with his knowlege, that they are now using him in some way to educate them n stuff! i hope they will look to you for somethinig like that!

Lori, I'm very glad that things are looking up for you, your children, and your reptiles!!!

I also started to put a lot of thought into dss education of herp related issues. I am planning on trying to do the same out here on the west coast, or at least list myself as a contact for those strange instances of when herp knowledge is needed. Is that kingsnake poisonious? lol!

Ok..After ranting for like hours at my husband in the " I can't believe she had the audacity to make such a public statement like this" mode....I am still quite perturbed , not to mention #$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^& off that such a statement was made with non-facts against my person [img]modules/Forum/images/smiles/icon_mad.gif[/img] [img]modules/Forum/images/smiles/icon_cool.gif[/img] [img]modules/Forum/images/smiles/icon_mad.gif[/img] [img]modules/Forum/images/smiles/icon_redface.gif[/img] I am still massively outraged over what was said in that post. AND I can say without a doubt that such being done would NEVER be excused/forgiven by me in my lifetime ! There is just no excuse for such , not even pure ignorance ! I didn't direct any further posting to this issue in this regard as I knew that I needed to put some thought to it and if done in an immediate fashion I would have made a post that I may have regretted also possibly. Now that I have had some time to think it over...here goes...

No matter how much anyone thinks they know a person, you probably do NOT. You may know of some of the things that go on in their life, but unless you walk in their shoes you know nothing in fact. By making that statement , you actually "tore" at one of the most important aspects of my life , but in a volatile negative fashion. [img]modules/Forum/images/smiles/icon_mad.gif[/img] I have spent my life devoting it to children, AND not just my own. So has my husband, and we both still do in fact. I usually do NOT express ALL that I do in this area , as I do not have a need to enhance my ego, so to say. Due to what's been said I feel like I need to explain myself in relation to the statement that was made though, even after this much time. In a nutshell, my life in the area of children has evolved from such things as the following...

I decided to work in the area of EMS quite a few years ago. I chose also to work in the inner city, one of the worst areas to do such work. I saw things going on with children in their daily lives that most couldn't imagine ! On my last day of working such I dealt with 4 child abuse cases...1 involving the death of a 3 year old at her father's hands...my final call that day , and the one that decided for me I could no longer do such involved the uncalled for death of a 16 year old boy. I turned my badge in after staying over shift with that child till he left this earth as we all know it. [img]modules/Forum/images/smiles/icon_cry.gif[/img] [img]modules/Forum/images/smiles/icon_cry.gif[/img]
After some time the lack of doing something, no matter how trivial, for children in our world got the best of me. I needed to get back in the "field" so to say working with children and their rights and safety. I found that outlet via volunteering my time in various places in my community where there are children. I sat on education, health, childcare, law reform, socialization, local, state, regional, national, and worldwide committees for such. I have held positions as minute as a classroom volunteer up to sitting on board of directors for a national federal preschool program. I have traveled extensively thru-out this country devoting my time and knowledge in the fight for children in all avenues of their lives. I also received a letter a few years ago from the U.S. govt stating that I had been nominated to represent this country abroad in Africa in the area of a National effort to help that country "build" up their education and resources for their children as an ambassador of early childhood education. Unfortunately, I declined and did not attend, such being due to my husband's injuries from an IA.
I have been at the fore front in my community in which I live in such areas as educational rights, development of social outreach programs for inner city youth, drug resistance programs for youth and so on and so on.
My husband and I solely have devoted ourselves to the present graduating class of 2006 in our community of the children who attended our local elementary ps. What this means is that we have opened our homes and our lives to them. Each and every one of those kids has my beeper #, home # and an open door to my home for whatever they need. We have gauranteed them a college education upon garduation. We have an agreement with them that they will support each other to stay clearof drugs, attend school, work to the best of their potential in school, and shall graduate hs. We also have agreed to provide upon graduation a graduation party including everything from limos to dinner, to all nite drug free party. These kids call my home at all hours of the day and night...some just to talk..others seeking help with school assignments...still yet others for solace from a bad home environment. We do NOT provide a restriction on what we will do or how far we will go for them..nor for any other child that comes into our lives ! What do we get for all this...just the knowledge that we have made a difference in the lives of children..nothing more...nothing less .
My husband has taken over on some of my committees for me, so that I can spend more time on my reptiles. He now sits on may of the committees that I have. He heads up youth support days in our community where he takes 80 children to baseball games in RI with the pawsox...with only 2 other chaperones to help. these children come from embattled homes and would prolly never see/attend such a game without him. At this moment my husband is on the phone with one of those kids from the class of 2006...he's calling from the local er. Apparently from what I understand, the boy broke his ankle while in gym. He called my husband cuz his parents couldn't be bothered to come down and pick him up. Yes we are also both on quite a few emergency contact cards for kids at school also that are not ours.
Weell I have to take a child to a therapist atm that needs such due to the lasting affects of the beatings and mental abuse that he received from his father and while I am doing that my husband is going out the door to "run" his weekly parent support group for single parents which he does.

Sorry for the lebgthy post BUT I think you may now have a better understanding of just how wrong that comment of non-fact was....
