During my trip this weekend I decided to stop by a random pet store on the way up...so I walk into this smallish looking corner pet store expecting the worst and wondering why i bothered...
I look around and every thing is dimly lit and...quit...save the hum of pumps and other such equipment, it actually smells CLEAN in there. I turn around as I hear a small bell ring and hear the wild sound of many birds in one room...the door whispers shut and near silence engulfs the building once more.
A pleasant young lady asks if there is anything i'm looking for and when I tell her i'm looking she goes over to her desk and waits.
Looking around I see a verity of animals surprisingly well kept, no 15 ferrets to a small little cage here..in fact..there were just three in a over large, clean cage with LOTS of toys four water bottles and two food dishes and CLEAN litter boxes..I almost had a heart attack!!
Looking on over the other rodents (all had wheels, clean cages with lots of room, full water bottles and fresh food) I decided to look at the snakes and such and you could have knocked me over with a feather!
One little (Beautiful) Redtail boa in a roomy 20g long with two hides, some branches for climbing and the such a perfect water bowel and....a digital humidity and temp gage which SAID THE TEMPS WERE PERFECT was in this guys home..
I found much the same with the ball python and the king snake that was there.
Also there was two little beardies in a 20
gal with lots of rocks and hides and the such 5 anoles in a tall cage with lots of climbing surface..Each cage had a digital thermometer and humidity gage which worked and everything was perfect. No dirty cages and each one had fresh full water dishes, no wilted greens in the turtle or iguana's cages.
Best of all...
I asked some general questions about the snakes there, asked how big the RTB was gonna get, how long they live, what they eat and how to know what to feed...this girl nailed all the questions AND..AND..AND TOLD ME NOT TO FEED LIVE!
When i asked if i could see the snake, she gently took him out, talking softly to him the whole time and held him correctly and explained the process to me as well...she was quite concerned for the animals well being as well as mine.
I wrote quite a lengthy comment card about how impressed i was with the store and its stock..i would feel quite comfortable buying there even if the prices were a *Bit* and i mean just about 5-10$ higher then here at home.
