About 90% of the pet trade boas are Columbian boas. It isn't so much that they can't get the other ones to breed.....it's just that for most people, the Columbians are better pets as are other locals of
BCI. There are several other ssps of boas becides
BCI and
BCC too....BCI being the most hardy and managable by far and so the most popular. A nice Suriname
BCC is breath taking... but they can be a handfull sometimes...especially at feeding time...they are more prone to regurging if feed too much or if in anyway stressed. You have to really know these snakes well to keep them happy and healthy....BCI are just a bit more forgiving of mistakes and a lot more docile as a rule. They also tend to hang out with ya and chill when ya get em out....where a lot of
BCCs seem to squirm and keep trying to get away....BCC are much more active and flighty....then there is the difference in price.
BCIs can usually be picked up anywhere from 60-150 bucks...Depending on the time of year and availability. Breedable adult females may go as high as 300 bucks for normals (Although I paid 100 for one last year and she produced right away)....rare
morphs of course bring whatever someone will pay. You can figure starting in the 250-300 range for a non-spectacular
BCC and on up near the 1000 range for a nice one. Breedable
BCC adult females are usually several hundred dollars more than babies...They grow slower and the potential offspring sales is considered more with them than with
BCIs....There usually isn't much difference in the price between adult and baby
BCI....such a contrast to
BCC. It's all about availabilty-supply and demand.
