"Hi Everyone, As you know the battle on AB1634 continues. The new deadline in 4/17.
A project I'm working on is getting CVMA to publicly back off their endorsement especially after hearing their name bandied about so much at the hearing. They were presenters and spokespeople for this bill!! (what are they thinking) They had five people there including two officers and at least 1 person who id'd herself as an animal rights vet. We need to confront our vets on this and ask them why they are letting CVMA do this.
To this end I have drawn up a short message (see below) to veterinarians that I'm hoping we can spread through the animal world by email and web site inclusion. I'm sending it to my friends and asking 4 things of you -
1. That you will send it to at least 5 other people w/ the 4 requests below.
We need numbers here folks.
2. You will take it in personally to your vet
3. I ask you to drop it off at as many local vet hospitals as you can
4. Please try to bring it to kennels & groomers as well and ask them to ask
their clients to take it to their vets.
I suggest copying the message below to a Word program and make it pretty before you take it off wih you.
Please Please help- this is important

Message to Our Veterinarians
Are you aware that the California Veterinary Medical Association has chosen to pro-actively support and promote bill AB1634, the so called CA Healthy Pets Act, an act aimed at eliminating pet ownership?
This bill requires mandatory sterilization of ALL cats & dogs by 4 months of age and imposes substantial penalties for noncompliance. Though purporting to allow certain exemptions, the existence of exemptions are not guaranteed and even if available are made meaningless by the imposition of impossible requirements. This bill attempts to end all purebred dog and cat breeding in CA.
Euthanasias in shelters are down by 86% since the 70's though work still needs to be done. This bill, however, does not & will not do that work. It does NOT address the real issue of adult animals in shelters abandoned because of behavioral issues.
This bill affects your clients' privacy and property interests and interferes with the right of a veterinarian to make medical decisions in consultation with his clients.
The end result of this bill will be the destruction of your practice.
I ask you to immediately take the following steps to protect yourself and your
clients:
1. Contact CVMA & demand they publicly retract their support of this bill.
2. On your letterhead, contact the Business & Professions Committee of the State assembly at FAX # 916 319-3306 expressing your opposition to this bill and CVMA's support of it.
3. Also fax this letter to your local assembly representatives. See
www.assembly.ca.gov for names & contact information.
4. Urge all your clients to do the same.
These steps must be done immediately to be effective."
