Here's the deal, my friends girlfriend is a high school teacher and asked if I would do a small presentation. I figured sure, there aren't to many reptile keepers in the area and there are a lot of misconceptions, I wanna fix that. Now I've been on the sight long enough I could probably ask any question that anyone would ask, but I would like a small presentation to give first, of course, you know look a bit more professional, lol. She is a spanish teacher so I would mainly be covering species of spanish speaking countries, but the biology class will also be present. So if any one could help with some slides or any information packages they have done up I would be more than happy to use them, don't worry I will refer them to rtb and give proper credit . If it's to much info for the thread you can also shoot it to catlett00@yahoo.com. Thanks in advance.

My tips:
1) Keep it short, probably 15 minutes or less.
2) Live props hold attention longer
3) Pick 5-7 basic points you want to cover
4) Allow some time for questions
High School kids are more concerned where the party is this weekend, than the internal biology of a boa constrictor, so don't get too in depth.

Ok where to start. If u are going into a high school most definately bring live snakes. U will be suprised at how many will be intrested and pay attention if u have live visuals. If u are concerned with time and want an easy way out spend some time making snakes look good. Most people are scared of snakes because they don't understand them. STRESS the fact that they don't have fangs ( i am under the assumption u are doing boas , and don't do emerlds) like cobras. Only pick a few and give them a good name. Go over the myths and facts. The boi is good for learning but may lack the intrest to hold the atention, so only spend 5-10. than bring out the snakes. Or even better !!, you can talk about the bio of the snakes whiel they are out so that u hold the att of the kids. Just that right there will kill 15-20 minuts. Hope ya have a good time doing the presentation.

Be sure to bring one of those "snake in the can" pranks to pull right at the beginning...hide it in a bag or something...that'll get their attention real quick. you can then talk about why it scared them (at least 4 people will jump if you pull this off correctly) and the other myths about snakes

Thanks for the tips guys. Yes I will be using my friends for live aids. I will probably be doing it either the later part of this week or next. I'll let you guys know how it went. Thanks again.

I realize that I'm a little behind, but better late than never. For the past 2 yrs, I have been taking snakes to school for science class. I throw in a little trivia, a lot of live snake time,(Ikeep them out the whole time), and let the kids touch them. Even now, when I go pick my kids up at school, all the kids want to know how George is doing and when can I bring him back to see them. He was the overall favorite and they loved him. Which tells ya that the fear is a learned thing in most people. The main thing I want to get across to the kids is that snakes are special, just like dogs, and they have nothing to be afraid of if the behave in the right manner with the snakes.
