I have 2 dragons and my b/f has 5 dragons, 1 wizard and 1 spider. You can see a few here. There are more in the works as soon as we can afford them, LOL

Mine is of a pair of snakes that are from a reoccuring dream that I have now and then. They don't have heads but have human hands for heads and they can't see because of course they have no eyes. I felt sorry for them so in the mid 80s I did a painting and incorporated them into it, tied in knots and holding an eyeball so that they can see. In the painting they were tan and olive. but I brightend them up for the tattoo sketch later to lime green and tangerine after the cure came out with "Wrong Number". The first time I heard that song, I had a cold chill and a freaky feeling that I still can't get over when I heard the opening lyrics. "Lime green and tangerine....the sickly sweet colors of the snakes I'm seeing...Lime green and tangerine...the sickly sweet colors of the devil in my dream"

Julius, please read the book "The Cosmic Serpent" by Jermey Narby Ph.D. I think you'll be further more shocked by what you'll find there. The aboriginies have been dreaming your dream awake for thousands of years, they call it the cosmic serpent, it's the double helix, the source of all life, DNA. It talks about the Peruvian worship of the Green Anaconda and the Brazilian Rainbow boa as the creators of the universe as we know it and then looks at the scientific explanation as the scientists find that this 'vision' of creation literally spans the globe in tribal societies from continent to continent who have 'never' had 'any' contact with one another's cultures and yet all dream, trance, worship, and represent in drawings this very same vision of the cosmic serpent. I think you'll find your answer there for why it is recurring. It's natural, imbedded in the human psyche so to speak.

Sophia, that's freaking me out LOL....This is the first I have ever heard of any of this. I will definatly be on the look out for this book. Thank you.
I will say this...when I was having this dream "often" I would wake up feeling very relaxed and very awake....and would have the urge to paint or draw. Usually in the wee hours of the morning. I wish I didn't sell the original painting now..but I did. Anytime I would paint or draw them...I would stop dreaming them for awhile. I don't know why the dream was so disturbing...it was almost euphoric while it was going on....but left me very restless and anxious when I woke from it. Every dream with these snakes was always different...but they were always in very dark places and seemed to be looking for something...I always tried to help them...but never knew what they wanted. They were so vivid and....I dunno...other worldy compared to other dreams I have. I dunno...just freaky...I have 2 more very unrelated reoccuring dreams that sorta do me the same way.

Hopefully that works...
Now to the dreams and your feeling like you're trying to help the snakes find something... are you ready to FREAK!,,, The aborigines will tell you that when the snakes come to you, they're helping 'you' to find 'yourself', your origination point. Now I interpret that many ways, but snakes in dreams are always, always wisdom and rebirth, but if we look at it from the aboriginal perspective, then they are helping us to understand the way we came about as a 'whole species', so this origination point is about more than just you the person, it's your lineage, ancestry and ultimately the creation of your kind and the perpetuation of the knowledge and wisdom of those who came before you (you know, the way you just 'know' some things and don't know how you know them).
What I found odd about the whole thing was how so many tribes separated not only by miles but by oceans, all saw and drew the same thing, almost exact replications! It was at once unnerving and then to me, it was reassuring that there is one single, origination point for everything, for all matter and all life and if some folks want to call it God, then I being a person of scientific mind and an intense dislike for things religious, had finally found a comfort zone with people of faith, a point where I could say, OK, so you believe in God and while you can't define what that is, for you it's comforting to call this force of pure energy that created us all by a title and under many monikers, God... okay I can see that. This book is what brought the skeptic in me to the realization that science and spirituality must go hand in hand, and having read it I realized that science is a religion unto itself anyway. I can't do the religious dogma thing, I don't need a method by which to control others or reign myself in, I'm a force of nature myself and being a creature is all about being natural, I don't see the point of trying to squelch that. All that aside however, to see this belief span the globe made me a more accepting, less bigoted person. Odd how one little thing can do that.
To snake dreams, they talk to me in some dreams and bite me in others but they're almost always the same, they're always vipers and in the dream the bite never hurts, I'm just stunned that I've been bitten and fascinated by the bite mark! Then I wake up. I've dreamt of being in caves with them and they're talking and then suddenly they're humans and this was long before the book, the dream feels like some strange rite of passage/rebirth scenario. Your painting is a release from what the dream has 'brought' you so they're sort of your muse I would suspect, that would be why the dreams would stop once you've created the vision imparted to you. Dreams are really about us, our subconscious talking to our waking mind, that's why we remember some and not others. So if you put it in that vein, not only are you the snakes and the symbol for DNA as DNA is what you are comprised of, but you are the 'stuff' of your ancestors and share that string and so that's likely the part of you that's speaking through these dreams, in other words, this is how the past before our time comes back to remind us, some would say haunt but I think it's simply history repeating itself through creation and ultimately destruction, you know, cells building up for a birth then breaking down over time, but now as we understand DNA, although so much of our DNA is considered 'junk' that we don't understand what the use is for, I have begun to think that 'junk' is our somewhat repressed memory of our 'kind', our 'species' and the reason why things resonate within us so deeply without us ever understanding why we're so passionate about it, is that 'junk' DNA like sectors in a hard drive with information that we've forgotten is stored on there, in hidden files. (man that was a run on sentence pardon me, but it was a run on thought string too! ) LOL Anyhow, what it breaks down to is those old pagan cultures and their understanding of creation is an exact match to what we know to be 'DNA' or 'star stuff' as they would put it, so how far off the truth can they really be? I'd say they're closer to the truth than most of us could ever hope to be and we've become far too comfortable with the material status of the modern world to want to go back and transcend with them. But you know, the more I think about it, the more I think that as my child grows up and goes on to her own life and chooses a path, the higher the likelihood becomes that we're going to go down there and really find a life, in other words find what 'is' life... I think they got it all figured out...

No mention that I can recall but if you think about it, 'DNA' (two snakes twisted into the double helix) to you might be representative of a very 'human, helpful' element, and subconsciously you might equate 'hands' with 'helping', as in 'lend a brother a hand', 'the helping hands people' (insurance commercial), 'can you give me a hand with this'. That might be what the hands instead of heads was meant to represent to you. The eye really caught me too, you know Horus and the 'all knowing, all seeing eye'. That you would put that at the top to symbolize 'God' seeing all, I was struck by that almost 'Masonic/Egyptian' theme added to what appeared to be a totally aboriginal origin for the painting. Can you tell I was just as stricken by your tatoo, as you were by the idea that the symbol is as old as time itself?
I think you'll enjoy the book immensely, should you be interested in more afterward, let me know, we have one heck of a library here on ancient cultures, theology, history, anthropology,
etc... So if you like it, I'll look through the collection to find other titles that go more into detail. I hope you do enjoy, I know I did. Glad to hear you ordered it!
