As most of us have noticed, there is a curse filter installed on the forums to help us that moderate not have to do so much moderating to edit out cursing so the site can be enjoyed by all....while cursing may not offend everyone...the lack there of should offend noone at all. If the lack of cursing does offend you...grow up and try us again at a later date.
While I admit it is clever to to mask curse words from the filter by using symbols like $ for S and blocking out a vowel with a *...it defetes the purpose and any child reading the post can get the gist of the intended word. This filter was put here for a reason and any masking is uncalled for. There are other words in the English language that can easily substitute anything you feel a need to mask. You were smart enough to figure that out....shock us all and be smart enough to incorporate words in your vocabulary that don't require masking and filtering. I can't speak for the rest of the admins and mods....but going through and editing posts with profanity is old and time consuming and mostly just uncalled for. I will no longer be editing them....I will just delete the entire post...if it was the original post...the whole thread goes with it...so If you have something you really want to say...please keep it clean.

Hehe, I already do that to some. Especially if very profound.
Some though, I will edit as needed even if just as a subtle reminder that we like it clean here.

ahem.. i think we are ALL guilty of doing this in posting at times here.. even us admin/mods .. Pretty sure that I have done it myself even.
How about meeting up in chatroom [ in a private room even] with admins to discuss some changes that need to be made on RTB and also to go over some new rules...establishing them or just the need to "point em out" basically in a more "solid" fashion?
Friday/saturday works good for me.. You guys ?? Time ??
Juls I know you can set up a private room for us right ? Cuz I know I can't lol

There's another method they're using to get around software filters for cursing and I've seen it at other sites. They space the curse word out, sometimes single spacing between the letters, sometimes double spacing. I too am guilty of using characters like !** and such to stand for letters in curse words and I won't do that here further, I understand why the rule is in place.
I just thought I'd drop you a note on that because it seems to be a problem on other servers too and you might want to mention that this method is no more acceptable than any other.

I dont care how they get around it...if the spell the word backwards or upside down or whatever...getting around it takes forethought...and if this forethought was focused more on better word selection, then it wouldn't be a problem. And anyone with at least this much mental capacity can surely pull this off.
If ya really need to vent by cussing...come on into chat after hours when the kids are in bed. There is much less censoring there.

Ahh p**py....
Hehehe, there are many ways around the filter.
I am all for biz as usual here and like Jules said, if ya gotta think how to avoid the filter then maybe ya should be cracking open a Websters for a better word.
I deleted one last night that was a blatant post about trying out ways just to get around the filter.
It was also on one of the old posts that was pulled up for no reason.

good point crossdresser. lol. i'm sorry, just everytime i hear anything about a filter my mind immediately bounces back to that post.
anyhow, i work with teenagers now in a residential school, basically for kids who are in trouble. let me tell ya, i've seen all the tricks. theyre creative.
i suppose there will always be one fool who thinks vulgarity will get their point across better or get them more respect, not knowing it only erases any respect they may have gotten. there's a time and a place for everything.

An afterthought, if you really wanted to tell someone off without using a curse word and they just happen to be male...
You could always be creative and say something like;
"I hope your mother runs out from under the bed and bites you on the leg!"
This is one I use often in polite company, there are no copy rights
Or there could be a 'cursing' emoticon on site and you could use that as a 'fill in the blank' for the linguistically challenged!

LOL For cursing customers you should create one that is just 'all' mouth, that might get the point across however I doubt it.

I totally agree with this. There shouldn't be any profanity allowed on the site. This is a public forum, kids do read what goes about it. There are many substitutes for profanity, don't tell me there isn't

I agree 100% filtering the site, Lets keep it a family site
BUT....... I don't agree with deleting the posts. I think editing the profanity out is a better method, just because when new comers to this site and go through the forums and see admins and mods editing the profanity, they will understand not to use it. If the posts are deleted no one would see the edits. My .02. -Juggalo

I got $50 that says the kids are better cursers than 50% of the adults on here.
Anyone that's spent any time with me knows I curse a lot. In fact, it's no reflection on my intelligence, just a carry over from my university days where every other word was a curse word.
Having said that, I will try and rein it in, since I don't curse at home ( 3 year old) and not at work (bible thumpers/ ladies) so what's one more place.

LOL...prolly right there Jay. But, it isn't so much the kids as members as the other kids looking over mommy and daddy's shoulder when they are typing...Also...Like Grace...there are a number of grownups that really don't want to see it either. It really doesn't bother me to be honest. But it does some people and it can and should be avoided in a public forum such as this. It is like why women shouldn't wear perfume to a job interview...while some or even most people might like it...some may not...and the person doing the interview may happen to not like it and it may leave a negative feeling in the subconscience. Whereas, the lack of the perfume would not offend even those who like it.

>>oops that was sexist...let me clarify...men shouldn't wear cologne to an interview either.
LOL I don't find it sexist! I'm female and the stuff kills my sinuses! I'm wondering why we have to create fragrances that smell like they're trying to mask the wet dog scent anyway! LOL
And while I agree with Riley that words are just words and I have a mouth on me when I'm angry that would make a sailor blush, some folks are just too fanatical about simple, little things like 'words' and the site will most likely be a more pleasant place to visit if we don't have fundies pitching a tantrum everytime someone says a 'wittle dirty word'. It makes me wonder about people you know... we have people dying from not enough food to eat, incurable diseases, war, etc and you're getting all worked up over words Like the famous F word which isn't a word to begin with, it's a legal acronym which originally meant "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge..." It's slang form has some similarities with the original, but people still get all worked up over it... hmmm...
What's the old saying about sticks and stones??? Oh well... I digress.
