hey everybody
i just wanted to post a pic of my cousins husky. i dont know what the mammalian term for leucism is, but this dog definitly meets the requirments. not 1 bit of dark coloration on him!
check him out
a face shot for the eyes......
a body shot......
another head shot.......
here is a shot so you can see in his mouth......
these cruMMy pics do him no justice! you gotta see him in real life.
his name is bucky- weird name, but it grows on you he is 11 mos old.
now is this trait passable like in reptiles??? because i want one BAAAAAAAD!!!

Thats a beautiful animal. We're looking into getting a husky sometime soon and in our research on the color guidelines for them, "solid white" is one of the (many) coat colors, so it is a breedable trait. They may occasionally have black or liver points as well b/c of extreme piebald or dilution factors.

Out of curiousity..... would dogs be like other animals in the fact that you get gentically inferior animals when you start breeding for a particular trait such as all white?

vitaligo....thanks!
you get inferior animals if the inbreeding goes out of control!
my cousin breeds neo mastifs and i have seen some babies born (not from him) with their bodies opened n stuff. plus you get things like tumors etc....
he was a lot of money, but they were having a white sale and he was only $850!
its cool too because he is an alpha male.
too bad on this guy, i just found out he gets snipped on thursday
i do have the breeders info though......hey mac, if you need it to check them out, i can pass it to you. i was just checking the pedigree- there are a lot of champ dogs there and on his grandfathers side there were the "whites"!
we'll see. this dog is excellent- to cute
thanks for the info guys!

Wow, sweet looking dog. Is this dog deaf by any chance? Or more specifically, does it have Wahlberg's syndrome? Wahlberg's syndrome is when the subject's hair is whiter or grayer (light gray) than normal, and they eyes are blue, and the subject is also deaf. If the dog isn't deaf in at least one ear, then it doesn't have the syndrome. This affects humans as well as cats and dogs, it's also more prevalent in dogs than cats. In addition, if the white fur covers at least one ear, deafness is more likely. I know a couple of people who have this, and certain breeds are more likely to have it also: i.e. Dalmatians, Australian Cattle Dogs, Australian Shepherds, AmStaffs, Jack Russell's, Catahoula Leopard Dogs, and it happens occasionally in Huskies also. I believe these breeds are genetic carriers of the syndrome, but it affects other breeds as well.
