Well, we're coming into week 5 of the season, time to take stock of the situation.
Some surprises this year:
Rams stinking it up
Carolina was undefeated the first 3 games of the season
49ers struggling
The Raiders & Chargers are the only 2 undefeated teams going into week 5.
Last year's champs, the Patriots, have proven to not been a fluke this year, having only lost to the undefeated Chargers last week.
Poor Tennessee continues to take a beating after eeking out a victory over the Eagles in week 1, being banged up and not 100% at the skill positions.
The Raiders are firing on all cylinders, but go against the vaunted offense of the Bills and Drew Bledsoe this week. Can the team with the highest average age in the NFL sustain their level of play for 12 more games?
The NFC is shaping up to be very interesting - the Eagles, Bucs, Saints, Packers and Pathers all looking good so far. But their schedules are getting tougher in the next 4 weeks and that should separate the real deals from the posers.
The Bucs D is looking tough and their special teams is playing well. Their offense is typical of the Bucs, but they're winning games. The Eagles, although banged up with injuries in the front 4, still are a defensive powerhouse and top 10 in every defensive category (and top 5 in most)and their offense keeps rolling, having rung up 37, 44, and 35 points in each of their last 3 games. Look for them to play in the NFC championship game.
I love football season!

Hey now lets not leave out the CHIEFS!!!! Yes the are 2-2 right now but they have played very tough football and have been right in there with some good opponets. The Raiders are looking good right now but let's face it, who have they beat ....Seattle, Pittsburgh and Tennessee. These teams have all been struggling. Let's see how they do against a good ball program.

I was not surprised by the dolphins at all - in fact I expected them to be a little bit better than they are now.
Yeah, the Raiders have beat some struggling teams, but um, they've pounded the #$%^$%^$%^$%^& out of them, not just beat them (see Tenn. last week, Pitt earlier)
Besides, I tried to leave out some of the "RTB" teams in hope of getting some responses
The Chiefs are better than I thought they were, but unfortunately for them, I think their season will hinge on Trent Green's season. When he's on, they're tough to beat, but when he's off, he's off bad. Still, they have a decent front 7 and a great running game, but the secondary is their weak link..
Besides it's all academic, the Eagles are going to beat whichever chump comes out of the AFC anyway

A win is a win. Regardless. Take at look at the Raiders' schedule this year. We have the most difficult schedule in the league this year.

I knew there was something I liked about you, J. Riley. Good comeback. But you can go ahead and add Buffalo to that list now.

Oh, we're just WAITING for revenge for that game. And we'll get a chance this year and do it right. We're sandbagging right now, trying to remain just under the radar until it's playoff time

Do I need to remind you the 'skins failed to score an offensive TD against the Eagles in their first game of the season? We'll take out which ever QB you have left in the next game and take another W while we're at it

I'm surprised how well the Saints have played lately... I'm rooting for the Rams, but don't look like they are going anywhere this year...

Ya know....Cowboys...like em or not...ya gotta love ol # 22. He has been a class act from start to finish and this is the end of him. He knows it...they all know it...He has carried that whole team on his shoulders for many years with a little help from a few big hambone gnawing offensive linemen of course. But I think it's cool that they are letting him struggle and claw his weary old body the few more yards he needs to beat Walter Peytons all time rushing yards record even though they have a much healthier and stronger (now) RB on the sideline and they are likely blowing off any chance of a winning season to do so. But there is always next year and I think they owe him that. Go Emmitt....just 234 more yards to go.

Well heck, they already lead the league in convictions!
And thanks to Rae Caruth, the Panthers are kinda edging up on them in that area!

jules i agree with you completely. of course i can get into the barry sanders emmit smith argument. but i do believe that emmitt is the greatest allaround back in history. easy on the conviction stuff guys. remember someone called troy aikman, he is one of the highest rated passer in nfl playoff history. yeah he has had a lot of concussions. take a look at muhammid ali. after 10 years worth of hits i would be the same. so you guys can get off the cowboys a bit. thanks, i have been a fan since the mid 70's

me too tx...I cant stand the owner....but I don't watch any sports for the sake of the owners anyway.
I have a lot of respect for Barry Sanders...He retired with this same title in his sights and he still had pretty good health to take him there....but apparently didn't feel the need to prove anything. I can't blame anyone for taking either route. The day Emmitt was drafted into the NFL, he scrawled this goal onto a scrap of paper and although it's hardly readable now...he still carrys it with him and has every intention of getting there one agonizing yard at a time. I think it says a lot that they are allowing him to do this too. I'd hate to give so much of myself for a team the way he did for so long and have them turn their backs on me at the end the way so many sports teams do. They seem to always focus on winning today no matter what or who gets hurt. But they aren't really losing anything letting him play on even though there are fresher men on the bench. He is selling tickets, no doubt-win or lose.
