Transporting large snakes?
I am picking up a birthday present for my best friend. A 10ft albino burmese python, and today I am meeting the guy off of craigslist. I dont drive a car, so I will be taking her via public transit, [BART, if you are familar with the bay area train system] and... I dont know how to take her. I would dare just walk on holding this huge snake, people would start freaking out. I am worried she might be too large for a standard pillow case, and i am thinking a duffle bag, but the only one i have is like.. 4 cubic feet. so i dont know... suggestions would be great.

How about a rubbermaid? The ones with lids work well.

any 10 foot burm WILL fit in a king sized or maybe even queen size but definately a king size pillow case. I'd put her in a pillow case and then put the pillowcase in a dufflebag...or get someone to drive you.

ive already exasperated [i probably butchered that word] all my ride possibilities, this is a last ditch resort, my friend was supposed to go pick her up himself, but... now isnt picking up his phone, so ill have to miss class. i have only seen one other burm, which was an 11 ft albino green, and i am wary that it could fit in a pillow case, but from the pictures, shes not at all obese... ill go start looking for huge pillow cases. thanks for the responses..

If you can't find a large enough pillowcase you could also use a bedsheet and just bundle up all the edges and secure it closed with a zip tie or string or something... then put her in a dufflebag.

You also have to factor in that you are buying her from a guy. A 10 foot burm any guy has is probably closer to 7 or 8 feet If you know what I mean.

A sleeping bag will also do in a pinch. Just keep in mind that many don't allow much air exchange and will need to be opened periodically during transport.

Had that "your bag is moving" experience before. Little less scary, but probably a little more odd when a piglet popped out. ::chuckles:: I've also ridden on a university bus with a kid...of the goat sort. Long story.
Good luck with your acquisition. I'd be more worried about tired arms than peoples' opinions, but i'm a little shrimp.

Didn't see this the first read. I absolutely would not take a snake (especially one of that size) on any form of public transportation. If you get caught you'll be sorry for a long time, if not the rest of your life. It's just not worth the risk.
