Any ideas?
My boyfriend and I lost our Solomon Island Ground Boa today. He is in need to filling the hole left by that little bugger.
We have a 20g glass tank, heat lamp, and a few thigns to climb on left... he wanted to bury most of the stuff with the Solomon.
Any ideas as to what we can have with this basic stuff? He just wants something that likes to be handled, and will sit on his clothes while he plays games or something.

+1, well said. After that THEN start to evaluate where you are and if you can get something new.

Well yeah, I'm trying to convince him to take him to the vet tomorrow. His death bothers me, it is... odd. We weren't going to buy anything new for a few months though, to kind of get over the impulse buy instinct he has...

In the meantime, I just wanted to get some ideas and advice. We will be doing research and narrowing down what he wants, and then thinking about it for a while. The Solomon was an out of the blue, came home from work, "oh look what I bought" kind of deal.
(I'm really drawn to pythons with heating vents... I'm not sure why...)

if the snake died from something like IBD then the cage needs to be thrown away and also everything that was in the cage.

The Autopsy results came back today. And we are expecting the extra bloodwork to come back before the end of the week. The vet took pictures because she didn't think we would believe her.
Dante had these two scars on his back, that never healed when he shed. When they cut him open they found that he had spinal fractures that matched these scars, and his intestines near the fractures were also screwed up. We ran blood work to be sure, but the Vet is certain this is what caused his lack of eating, and eventual death. (He did eat, but only about once every 2.5 months, and that was with coaxing)
When we got the snake he had those scars, and the Vet said it did not look like anything an animal would do. "It looks like something a weedwacker, or lawnmower would do, or like someone saw him and started freaking out, and attacking him."
Now that we know, is anyone willing to give me advice?

So no one has any ideas or advice about what kind of pet would fill the requirements? All I get to hear is stuff I already know about sanitation?

Or maybe a colubrid, but you said you liked pythons...

It can't be too big. We don't have space for anything longer then 6 feet, and we were shooting for 4 - 5 feet.

How about a colony of eastern wood ticks?
They're easy to feed, but do tend to be a bit clingy.

Ticks really? LOL.
Actually I've been looking at a Rosy Boa. Anyone with any experience with them?

Don't ball get kind of large? I can't have a garter... according to the people I have been talking to it's illegal to keep a pet that is native to the area here in Portland Oregon... Unless it was caught in the area. Something about bringing new animals in...

LOL!
Rough-scaled Sand Boas (Eryx conicus conicus) are neat little snakes.
Or one of the African house snakes - The African House Snake
