Essay on Revenge...
I have to wright an essay on why revenge doesn't make us happy, using the example of "The Count of Monte Cristo".
Can anybody help me out, it has to be two pages typed.
I have done most of it thanks to Yahoo Answers.

Well from what I remember about "The Count of Monte Cristo", The count doesn't believe that there is true happiness OR unhappiness in life. You can only compare one to the other in relative terms. So I can't see how revenge either would or wouldnt make a person happy since it is his belief that it is all comparative. ie. You don't know how happy you are/were unless you compare it to how miserable you are/were. So essentially happiness is derived from misery and your rememberance of misery. Although I think that this was a revelation that monte cristo made toward the end of his saga, otherwise he wouldn't have undertaken his grand revenge scheme.
Hope that helps. It has been a while since I had to read the book.

IMHO Revenge is generally instigated by a person doing a wrong to another person. It hurt - it always does no matter what it was. Then the other person does something back - which could also be a wrong thing. This is getting back/getting even/ getting revenge. Does it make one happy? How long did it take to plan? How long did it continue to hurt or many you angry? It can provide some small and immediate satisfaction but it does not make the original wrong go away. For me - I now chose to not waste my energy and trust in Karma to get the person who wrongs me. I have even seen it work - and that is revenge without wasting any energy at all. But it isn't easy and takes years to master . . . plus an acceptance that you may never see the other person on receiving end of something. Just my opinion.

I'll get metaphysical here....In eastern philosophies, such as Buddhism, the cause of all suffering is attachment. The attachment is painful--whether it be the attachment to a certain person, a feeling, or an outcome. You are thinking that you will be happy only when the other person suffers. But that gives your power away to that person and keeps you stuck in anger, which is a painful mind state. You actually are attached to that mind state. The only true peace is from non-attachment. In order to do that you have to release the anger. That's why you always feel better when you let go. Whenever you decide that you cannot be happy until......you have given away your power to be happy in the present moment.
Having said that, I do have one ex that if I were to ever see him walking along the side of the road I would probably run him over. Since I have a really small car, I might back up and run him over again just for good measure.

Can we do this in a convertible like Thelma and Louise? Wouldn't hurt to pick up Brad Pitt along the way.

Good revenge story: A guy cheated on his wife with his young secretary. This is how she got even (this is a really really good one):
The house was in his name and he got custody. So before she left, she put little tiny raw shrimp inside the hollow curtain rods. Pretty soon his house started to stink but he couldn't figure out where it was coming from. So he had all the walls scrubbed and the carpets replaced. Smell was still there. He tried to sell the house but no one would buy it with the smell. So he reduced the price by thousands. The ex-wife bought it from him, changed out the curtain rods and sold the house for a huge profit.

Ok - this is too simple if you want them to suffer. And having THE EX FROM LLEH I have given this years of thought. First . . . find and kidnap (you might need the help of a few good men if you can find them) the 'ex'. Then you get some strips of rawhide, water, honey, and a good sharp skinning knife. Take a trip waaaaaay out into the middle of the desert - a nice strong sahuaro catcus would be nice to have around but not totally necessary. A good ant hill could suffice. Oh - don't forget to bring along the stakes to go with the rawhide strips that you will soak in water before applying. Ummm . . . as this is a family forum the rest is up to your imagination and mine is very vivid from having a father that loved to discuss American history, in particular the exploration and settlement period(s). teeheehee Get the pic? *giggles*

I have the convertible. All we need is Brad. You can bring _________ (fill in) from RTB site. (Sadly) most of them are too young for me.
