Argh!!!
I need to vent!
People who care for reptiles and feed them live mice (not really talking about snakes on this one, more about Leo geckos and beardies and other lizards that *can* eat mice) UGH! And they think they know EVERYTHING and when you try to educate them, they blow you off and tell you to go cry to PETA and that animals eat them in the wild. THERE IS NOTHING WILD ABOUT BEING CAPTIVE!
2nd Problem I need to yell about:
When I was buy the materials for building my BP's new cage. a guy asked me how big my snake was. I told him 3ft, he looked scared and told me that if it was any bigger it'd eat my little sister.
I quote " Oh, If it was any bigger, it would eat her *points to my sister* Snake don't determine between anything. It's like a Lion or Bear. THey'll eat anything that moves and twitches. It's garanteed that your snake wants to eat you."
Mind you, he was VERY serious. I just kinda... Kthnxbye and walked away.

Im better now.

Wow ok. For one Monitors and larger lizards do eat alot of mice, for two people feed there beardies pinky mice for breeding reasons. Or even a snack.
For three: Not every one likes snakes, Doesnt mean they are idiots they just dont know. Best thing to do there is to educate them on snakes.

I know alot of lizards eat mice for certain reasons. But feeding LIVE mice is what I'm getting at.
And I know not alot of people like snakes. But what bothers me is that they tell people what they THINK they know and think they're right.

But how are they supposed to know any different if no one tells them? They probably have a fear and think that they are doing you a favor. Doesn't mean they hate your BP or think you're an idiot for having one, they honestly only know what they've been told and probably think they are doing you a favor.
Also, not really sure he's entirely wrong. I mean, obviously his size comparison of your BP and your sister was ridiculous, but if my snake was the right size and very hungry, I promise you he wouldn't play favorites...

Thank you for caring so much about the animals!! I'm sure you are a great reptile mom!! I have found that, when trying to advocate for animals, you catch more flies with honey (meaning a gentler approach often gets through a lot better.). Assuming the person is not a total jerk.

I hear you!
The worst exuse I hate hearing about feeding live is, "oh so god didn't know what he was doing when he created snakes (or any other reptile) to eat live mice/rats?"
I've had a lot ot people say this and stuff like this and it ticks me off! And what am I suppose to say to something like that, yes? I usually tell them it's just 100% safer, then they just blow me off... I've also been told that live mice/rats are more nutrious (sp?) then dead ones.. yea ok..
